How to scan to network with Canon IR2870

    Hi all.
Background- Due to restructuring at my workplace, an issue has come about where possibly a good solution would be to scan many multipage documents so they can be sent to colleagues electronically in different offices.
Anyway, I can request a scanner, but it would be a single page flatbed, and would take an eternity to scan what we want in the quantities that could be useful (soul destroying job).
Then as I stood over our photocopier, a Canon IR2870, I wondered- could this beast be unleashed to it's full potential? On reviewing the Canon website, I get the impression it can.
So what I wanted to ask was, how do we do it? I imagine the company it's rented off could sort it, but I'd really like to know how and if it can be done, and if it would work well etc, so I can take the idea forward.
Many thanks, if you can advise.

You really need to contact the rental company as they will know what options have been installed (and activated) on your unit. The iR2870, when properly configured/setup, will scan to file.

The iR2870 has the availablity to Scan to either file or email if it has either Universal Send or Authorized send installed. Neither of these come as stardard so if they were not installed on the machine they would need to be and then you can scan. Other than that, if the machine is a networked machine, you can do what is call pull scanning using desktop scanning software and the only requirement would be is to have Canon's Network Scangear installed which is available free from Canon.

Problems scanning to Win08 Server network

Hi, sorry to hijack this thread but it seems relevant.

We have the Canon iR2870 copier and would like to scan to the network. However, we are getting a 'no response' message when we scan. It worked fine when we used SMB to access our former linux box but doesn't work on Win 2008 server. Can't browse to the host (which is also the domain controller) but can see the other hosts such as the Exchange server.

Has anyone else had experience of this and know how to resolve the issue? Is a different driver required for compatibility with Win2008 server?

        Any help gratefully received.

        Thanks,
        Nick

          Hello,

If it has not already been installed, ask about the optional i-send kit for this machine which is still available. This will give you the option of either sending a document to another person via email or to a FTP server for the to pickup at their leisure. The only draw back is that unless you are sending to an FTP. server you can only send to one recipient at a time.

Another option, but it is expensive, is to install eCopy which does the same thing but is more automated including OCR to automatically send different documents to different people at the same time from the same batch of docs.

The best thing would be to contact your rental company to best discuss your needs, but these are a couple of options for you.

          Regards,
