canon imagerunner advance c5240a a1 finisher noise

I was getting some errors on this finisher... I replaced the m11 motor and the s14 sensor on the lower tray...

at first I was getting the ratatatatat noise when the finisher moved to the bottom and something was sitting in the tray...

didn't realize that at the time... took out the whole finisher and checked lower tray...

stuck it back in and now everything works...

    but I get a noise....

when the lower tray travels any distance vertically... there is a quick ratat and it moves ok... and it prints ok... didn't remember to check stapler unit... just glad it passed paper... heading back next week with supervisor...

I am thinking that its either
    1. the gears are messed...
    2. the motor is bad
    3. the gripper is bad
    4. the gears need to be reseated...

has anyone faced this issue before on this a1 internal finisher when replacing m11 motor and s14 sensor...

    any help is appreciated...

I think there is a slip gear in the drive. I had one that made the noise every time the tray moved. I just told them to ignore it. They did, I think because the woman used to work for us. I have taken them apart and not found anything. Best bet would be to replace the tray.

replace tray... sounds like a plan...

      slipped gear...
replace all the gears that drive the tray is an option... ?

      that could fix it also...???

      thanks for the insight...

      now I have options...
