Canon IR 5050 intermitt blank screen, help

    Hi Folks,
I have a customer that the whole lcd was blank,"power light" was lit. When I showed up, I just turned main power swith on/off, and the lcd came back up. The customer said he did all that, including unplugging from the wall. Last week, I was in there for an error that said " the default key is corrupted or invalid". I was able to clear via service mode, at that time the screen was lit. I'm assuming this is connected, although after I cleared the "default key" error, it worked all week, til Monday morning...any suggestions...??

    Thanks !!!

resetting the code didn't do anything but put a bandaid on the problem. you never even pulled the display, checked all wire harnesses and reseated both end of the harness did you?

you have just cost your company $$$ ... didn't fix the problem... and now has the customer questioning your abilities and the Canon line. GOOD JOB! ( what did you spend 30mins on site? )

Should have checked wall outlet supply voltage for proper ground.
      Netural to Ground +/- 0.5v

Then as posted, do an inspection on control panel connections.

Troubleshooting is a procedure u learn by taking steps and noting your checks.

        Wow...
did I come across the wrong way..?
sure, I understand Canon's troubleshooting procedures, back from 1980's, those suggestions would apply, if there was no power at all to the copier. Understanding, this a 10 year old copier.
the power light was green, just no lcd. I was looking for someone, who may have this particular issue, with this particular model. I have realized, sure clearing the "corrupt key" issue was just a band aid, now,, it was a new incident for me, I work on most makes and models, I don't exclusively work on Canon's, although I did, early in my career, working for Canon dealership. I'm just trying to make a living, and many times, there are repairs, that may not make sense. So I was looking for help, from others, who may have more experience, with this problem, than myself, not critique of my troubleshooting abilities. I thought this website does exactly that, help each other..I was hoping someone else may have had to replace a dc power supply, or suggest , they have had to replace the whole control panel...This credit union has been my customer over 15 years, sure they bought the equipment from a Canon dealership,, but have more than enough faith in my honesty, and abilities to perform the service, for all the variety of variuos office equipment, including Canon, Konica, HP, to scanners to micro-fiche readers, ect.

Well Sir, you claim to have worked on Canon for decades... but YET get upset at others for pointing out your failures in troubleshooting 101. Done.

            Just pointing out basic procedures.

Low voltage and poor grounding effects the DC applied to control panel, Also going bad memory.

The length of service has nothing to do with following procedures, worked with tech's who had much experience, but they never followed any consistency in problem solving.

            Good luck 😇

There seem to be a few people here that are just plain rude. I would just ignore them. They were not here a few years ago. A couple make rude comments every post they do. You will learn their names if you come here often enough. On the canon website there are a few who say cut the wire ties and do an all clear every time they post, ha ha. I do not have but one of those machines left I think. I think somewhere there is a key clear in service mode. I am not sure what the key actually does. Sounds like a power supply issue or main controller issue.

I've seen the "Black Screen" issue a few times, and what's always worked for me is to go into the power settings and change "Sleep Mode Energy use" from "Low" (default) to "High".

                  imageRUNNER 5075/5065/5050

                  Green LED //Black Control Panel

At power on only the green LED illuminates on the control panel and screen is black the copier does not rotate.

3.3V on connector J3001on Main Controller PCB was present.

No voltage was found at connector J1021 for the remote signals from the Main Controller PCB to Relay PCB.
This indicates the imageRUNNER 5075/5065/5050 was in sleep mode.

Soft switch on control panel was found pressed and stuck down.

Replacement of control panel resolved issue.

                      Actually...it's NOT a Gibson. It's a Jay Turser!!

$150 pawnshop find.... I'm a "Bottom Feeder" when it comes to electric guitars. My MOST expensive electric was $280.

Corrupt key has nothing to do with your display issue, that is cleared away in service mode 2 and a reboot. Your panel may be few things, check all the ribbon cables as the machine can have them slightly skewed and they can become damaged. I have had a couple of those. I haven't seen this series in years, so I can't precisely recall, but I did have one where a pcb driver needed to replaced and firmware upgraded as there was a bulletin about this, not sure if all IR models. Since it is intermittant I would go over the connections and especially the ribbon ones first.

Mine was "OK" right off the shelf, but I spent an additional $50 on a pro setup and installation of some Gotoh tuners, and I've had nothing but compliments on how it sounds and plays.

If the build quality is decent and the guitar rings out when unplugged, everything else can be tweaked! Heck...the previous owner already installed some Alnico V humbuckers in it for me....saved me some money there!
