iR5065 AD sync

Hi,

We are setting up for a group of 30+ users to be able to scan to their personal netork folders. The problem is that every 3 months they are required to change their network password due to company security policy. Every time this happens, their password needs to be manually changed in the address book on the iR5065. I have 2 questions:

1. Is there a way to sync the users account to directly authenticate with active directory each time they want to save a scan, thus preventing us from having to help them change their passwords on the copier every 3 months?

2. Where can I get a pdf of the reference manual to assist in this implementation?

We have a support contract, but I spoke to multiple persons and this issue seems to be beyond their area of expertise. No manual is available for dl on Cannon's website either. Thanks in advance for any assistance!

simple answer to the first question is no unfortunatly
the best way to do it is to have 1 user that has write access to the folders, setup for the device and nothing else. therefore you have the security required but that user is only for scanning to those folders. and set the password not to expire of course.

Ok, that's no good. Can I set up the "Scan" button to do this instead? We are currently using the "Send" button with an address book.

I guess I could create a dump folder in every one of their my docs folders and give a universal user account write access with no expiration, but I'm curious of the functionality of the scan button. I wish I could dig up some documentation on this. I'll post a sservice manual request in the appropiate forum.

E-Copy would be great, but we are a non-profit in ny who will soon be experiencing substantial budget cutbacks, so we are trying to find economical solutions.

The SCAN button is used for doing a "pull" scan using ScanGear. You could set this up on each user machine but I suspect you would find it a bit of a hassle when all copying/printing stops because the last person to scan forgot to put the system back online.

Up to you/your security people but creating a "special" user is the easiest solution and does not need to be a security problem. They way I did it for a bank was to create a user called Scanner and gave it a password. Then you have two options, you can modify each user scan dir to allow full control by Scanner, or you could give Scanner admin rights. Before you scream - remember the IT department controls Scanner's password. The user does not need to know it. Set Scanner's password to never expire and cannot be changed.

Kind of a pain to setup, but works well and last a long time.
