Canon IR 1730 Scan Density adjustment

Hi
I know Im not the brightest star in sky.I also know that if I was starting out today as a copier
repairman,Id be in big trouble and be looking for another line of work.Thankfully after 40 years in this bussiness,
I live a simple life and do not need a lot to survive,Am I the only one is cannot understand or figure out what
even a simple adjustment is when needed from the Canon IR 1730 service manual.
The machine scans lite and copies lite.Does anyone know how to increase density on this machine in scan mode and method
for knowing that the machine is properly toned up(another issue on this machine unrelated to scan issue,
Im going nuts trying to figure this out from the manual.
