C5045 question regarding sorter bridge unit

    ok
I have not done Canon in over 20 years except for the scattered odd request I get.
    I do mostly Ricoh now.
I got a call to check a C5045 where the sorter is either broken or not wanted anymore.
I assume the machine uses a bridge unit between copier and sorter?
Is removal just unplugging power and removing the physical parts?
or do i need to log in service mode? how to enter service mode?
As i see this is a 2009 model I dont see spending a lot of money on if any drums, fusers or ITB units are needed.
    thanks.

Well usually the sorter is an option, you can unplug it, of course turn off the machine then remove it, and see if it detect the sorter. if it doesnt then you are good to go.
if it does, then there might be another connection for the bridge unit might have to remove the bridge unit as well in order to get rid of the sorter!!

because if it detect a bridge a sorter is not far off.

    Good luck

There is a cover on the finisher top front corner, remove it and depress the lever, finisher disconnected. Remove the silver cover and screws at the left side and then a long phillips to remove 2 additional screws securing the buffer pass (bridge) in the recess of the machine. Remove the side cover under the control panel and you will find the electrical plugs for the buffer pass.

You will still have a issue, there is a sensor arm that gets removed for the buffer to be installed. You won't have one to replace it. You will get a remove paper message as soon as the device tries to generate a print or copy. Place some tape over the sensor and you will be good to go.
