D1520 copies are blank, print outs good

My customer has a Canon D1520 that prints reports just fine, but copies are always blank.
I know this means the scanner unit has an issue, but since I have no book on this one, I'm wondering if
there is a way to do a reset of some kind? Do you think I need to look at wiring between the scanner and the machine?
