    Canon I-sensys MF8540CDn - calibration problems

    Hello.

I have calibration problems with customer Canon I-sensys MF8540CDn.

    I tried:
    - variety of new toners (compatible)
    - changed intermediate transfer belt ASS'Y (RM1-4852), older one
    - changed DC CONTROLLER PCB ASS'Y (FM0-4754), older one
    - changed LASER SCANNER ASS'Y (FM4-3359), older one
but still some colors are displacement.

What to do? Do you have some ideas what next to change? (I have one older machine and this machine I used for spare parts).

My idea what to change next is... (but what is your idea ). I want to change next these spare parts in this order:
    1.) MAIN DRIVE ASS'Y RM1-8042
    2.) COLOR MISREGIST. SENSOR ASS'Y (RM1-4850)
    3.) H. V. POWER SUPPLY PCB ASS'Y (RM1-5294-050)
4.) MAIN CONTROLLER PCB ASSEMBLY (formater, FM0-4672)

Where do you think can be probably still problem (maybe in other spare parts that I do not named here)?
    Please help

    might help if you post/state:

    examples of cali sheets

    error codes involved

    COMPATIBLE toners ALWAYS cause issue.

What are the life counts on supplies.parts?

did the 'used' part perform correctly in their own machine?

explain the shot-gunning of parts with out knowing the actual problems.

have you done all adjustments/cleaning suggested in SM?

Need more info before we can give an honest opinion.

1.) Now I do not have the example of printing, but i try to draw the picture - see attachment.miss.jpg
2.) no error codes (full or quick calibration do nothing)
3.) yes compatible toners, but brand new, without stripes or lines
4.) life counts (color: 19.000 pages, black: 11.000 pages)
5.) I am not sure if the used parts in the older machines was good, but when I change these old parts, it was exactly the same as in the machine, where is problem with calibration
6.) have you done all adjustments/cleaning suggested in SM? - could you help which exactly, I think this could help

what you have drawn is not calibration but rather registration issues.

those procedures can be found in the Service Manual.. sounds like you are really an end user this might be a little above your pay grade

Thank you - registration problem. I am not end user, but I learn all my service live...
          Any idea what is wrong?
          My ideas:
          A) After replacing Laser Scanner Unit
          1) Register the value on the label packed with the Laser Scanner Unit in service mode.
          2) After the registration, affix the label packed with the unit on the inside of the Right Cover.

          B) Registration Roller - Registration motor faultry (need to be replaced)?

          C) maybe problem with feeding paper from tray? I changed pick-up roller (but nothing happened, still the same problem) - maybe faulty pick-up assembly (the part of the pick-up assembly is registration motor)

When you help me, what to change, you will be very helpfull. I know you think I am noob, but... I am not... but situation is as is.

UNTIL you get a service manual ...READ THE MANUAL and follw the proper steps..

no I won't help you... you clearly do not have the abilities needed for this.

Thank you very much, but for what and who is this forum? For only professional certificated service technicans with 20 years of practice?

                Re: Canon I-sensys MF8540CDn - calibration problems

I'm having similar problems - color mismatch correction failed. Colours are misaligned in Y direction on page so I am limited to black and white printing currently

Other forums suggest buying OEM toner cartridge and retrying, but I don't really have the money to spend on original toner as I have been given my MF8550Cdn for almost free. It was working well before and if I can't fix it, it will be thrown away at cost to the environment.

Is there a setting in the service menu for manual adjustment of colour alignment? The terminology is not obvious.

                Thanks

                  Re: Canon I-sensys MF8540CDn - calibration problems

Service manual suggests COPIER>ADJUST>SCNR>SUB-S-Y0 etc., would changing these values adjust color print position in vertical axis (looking at page in portrait)

Ah, it was a question for an expert rather than a suggestion, I hope someone can answer soon! Anyway I have found some cheap but genuine canon toner so I will try using OEM cartridge first, I hope it will fix it.

OK, so genuine canon toner cartridges installed.

At first the print-out is reasonable, not perfect. But as soon as the machine auto-corrects (exhibited by 'Correcting...' on the screen after a print) then the colors get seriously displaced again (vertically) by about 3mm. Trying a manual color mismatch correction fails. It fails a little quicker than before.

Any suggestions why color mismatch correction is making things worse?

Wow, finally after months of struggle, I have corrected the color mismatch!!

The problem was after doing the COPIER-FUNCTION-CLEAR-ALL - all the settings for the laser scanner unit are cleared.

Unhelpfully there was no label stuck on the inside of the right panel as suggested by the service manual. And the process for removing the laser scanner unit in the low chance that the settings are written on the unit itself was too much of a gamble.

But... finally made some sense of the service manual through posts on other forum threads that:

                          MAI - means horizontal
SUB - means vertical i.e as paper is fed through

So manually adjusting for the direction in which the cyan and magenta colors were being displaced (for me in the SUB direction), I was able to get the colors close enough together for the printer's color mismatch correction function to actually work.

I have here another machine - same problem (OEM toners and calibration problems). Yes, inside with right cover down, there was no label with laser parameters. What to do now? I manualy set this horizontal and vertical laser parameters (I set it randomly with values marginal + and marginal -) and it is working!
