The machine keeps indicating "Check toner & drum cartridge". I have tried different drums and toner cartridges. Still keeps indicating the same thing. Any suggestions? I don't have the manuals on them. A copy would be greatly helpful.

Thank you in advance for your help!

Get down and look at the fixing assy from the paper exit side. There is a sensor that comes lose/breaks off. Newer ones are glued in but old ones pop out fairly easy.

That was not the case. The sensor is intact. After talking with customer again, they had tried to 'force' the drum cartridge in and something snapped they thought. Nothing like pis___g in the wind and not getting wet. I will go by their office and bring it into the shop and try to see if something is amiss. I sure could use a copy of the manual.

Again, thank you for your help. I will let you know just what the fix was.

Check PS10. PS10 is the toner waste sensor and it will give those messages if it is broken or malfuntioning. With the drum/developer unit out it is the sensor all the way down on the right hand side.( looking down from the RHS of the machine. It has a black cover on the black baffle just past the guide where the drum/developer unit sit. Also ckeck the sensor flag that activates when you turn the toner bottle in place.

I have read the manual and I have yet to find HOW the machine knows it is time to change to a new drum! I have looked at the drum unit and re-read the manual and I still don't know how. Can anyone please tell me how it knows there is a new drum unit installed? I'm still getting the toner/drum indication and have checked all sensors and their flags. All seem to be working correctly and in great condition. I have changed the drum & toner units and still have the same indication. I even taped the cartridge sensor so it indicated that a toner cartridge was installed and still have the same indication. HELP!!!!

              Long

Waste toner level is detected within the waste toner/drum unit.

I believe you may be confusing the waste toner full issue with "Check TONER & Drum Unit". Different animals. Here are a couple items to check from the Canon esupport site:

              Error :
The error message, "CHECK TONER/DRUM CRG", is displayed on the screen.

              Workaround :

One of the reasons for this message is a faulty sensor or flag for PS11. You can check the sensor in service mode by following these steps.

              1. Enter service mode and scroll to "TEST MODE", hit the "SET" button.
              2. "TEST MODE [1]-[6], [8]", hit #6.
              3. "FACULTY TEST [1]---[9], [#]", hit 3
              4. "6-3:SENSOR [1]---[4]", hit 2.
"TBS" should say "on", if it does not, this is your problem. First check the actuator for PS11. The flag should be activated when the toner bottle is turned to the correct position. If the actuator is in the correct position, check the connector for the sensor back to the "Sensor Relay PCB", and then to the "DC Controller PCB."

              Problem :
'Check Toner / Drum CRG' is Shown on The Display.

              Solution :
Check the lever for the waste on the Drum Unit.

              Problem :
'Check Toner / Drum CRG' is Shown on The Display.

              Solution :
Check the operation of Sensor PS10. PS10 is the Waste Toner Full Sensor. If PS10 malfunctions it will display "Check Toner/Drum Cartridge"

              Error :
E810 and / or "CHECK TONER/DRUM CRG" message displayed on the Control Panel.

              Workaround :
In this example the contact for the Primary Charge Roller was reformed to contact the spring. The photograph below shows the front half of the Drum Unit with the Developer Unit removed. The red arrow is pointing to the contact and beneath it is the spring. If any components within the Drum Unit are not repairable the Drum Unit must be replaced due to the parts not being available separately.

The machine was finally fixed. The problem was when a person who usually doesn't replace the toner cartridge by opening the door too hard and with gusto that activates the sensor that tells the machine that the toner cartridge is present/missing. They had opened it too hard and moved the sensor actuator a couple of gear teeth out of whack. It was corrected and now it works great.

Again, thank you all for your suggestions and pictures. They were a great help.
