All copiers lose network connectivity after a power outage

I have 180 Canon copiers on my network. After a power outage, they lose network connectivity. They have to be hard-cycled to be restored. None of the 40 Ricohs have this problem. Five minutes after power is restored, the Ricohs are all back up and running, but no so with the Canons.

Local reps tell me that hard-cycling is the only remedy, but surely there must be a network setting to overcome this.

    Any help is appreciated.

try making DHCP reservation for Canons

Is that the only option? My networking group will never go along with granting 180 DHCP reservations.

        It's an option
most enterprise networks will set them that way

Ricohs loads the networking last on power failure

Canon loads there networking first so it's looking for DHCP since your network was unable to sent the data the Canons timeout
that's why a reboot on the Canons resolve the problem.

Looks like you need to add battery backups for DHCP server and network switchs and routers

I used to work on Canon and Ricoh. One difference I noticed was Canon had a default 60 sec (or 30?) delay on the ethernet NIC. I don't think Ricoh even had a setting for this. Maybe set this for 15 sec on the Canons?

How are the IPs currently set, DHCP or static?

If DHCP, try setting a few statically as a test.

In addition, make sure that PoE is turned off for the Canon ports on the switches they are attached to, along with disabling the Spanning Tree Protocol. Either of those will cause issues.

About 10 years ago, I had an account with about 20 or so Canon machines in one building, and they lost power frequently. They all had static addresses, but had PoE enabled, along with the Spanning Tree Protocol.

Turning both off did the trick.

              try to increase the time

              COPIER>OPTION>NETWORK>ILOGKEEP

When access is made again from a same IP address which was blocked before, if it is within the
retention time of the previous log, its log is not recorded.
If access is frequently made from a same IP address, the log record of the UI might be filled with
its logs. If the user considers that a single log for a same IP address is enough, set the longer
              retention time.

                available only on old machines

                LEV 2 COPIER>OPTION>USER>SLP-SLCT > 1

With the setting to use network-related application, the machine can
be recovered through network because it does not shift to sleep
                mode 1.
For this machine to recover from sleep mode 1 through network,
a particular packet needs to be received; however, the existing
network-related application does not send this packet. With the
setting not to use the network-related application, this machine
cannot recover from sleep mode 1 through network when it gets into
                sleep mode 1.
