Canon ImagePress C750 Print Using Black Only Problem

    Hello All,
I am trying to get an Image Press C750 to print everything black in text/graphics/Images using black only. I am using a Windows 10 computer with the Post Script Driver for the G100 Fiery. There seems to be several options to force the printer to use black only to print black images and text, but the only way I can get it to do this is by selecting Grayscale as the Color Mode. But I want to print Color on some text and some pictures, but have all the rest of the black text printed using only the Black Toner. I can do this with the PCL6 driver by turning on Line Control [Gray Compensation], but it does not work on the Post Script Driver. On the Color tab I have selected CMYK Source "SWOP2006 Coated5 (EFI)" and "Use Embedded Profile" unselected, and CMYK Processing Method "Full (Output GCR)" and "Black Point Compensation" selected, and Print CMYK gray using black only "Text/Graphics/Images." I have tried tweaking lots of settings with the same results. The black texts always print with all four colors piled on top of each other. I am using the same PDF document for printing with the PS Driver and the PCL6 Driver. The PCL6 will print all black text using black only and color on pictures, etc, but the PS driver will always print black texts with all four colors, unless I tell it to print everything in grayscale.

Does anybody know how to make the PS driver print black using only black ink?

Thank you so much for your help.

Is the text defined as black only in the document?

If yes, you should try Source GCR.

Output GCR means the Fiery and the associated input and output profiles decide what to do with black.

Thank you so much for your help. As far as I know all of my source documents are 100% K for black. I will run some tests to make sure. I know that the PCL6 driver will print all my text with K only when I select "Gray Compensation" in the Quality/Advanced Settings area. So I assume the printer can recognize when I want pure black from the documents I use. I will check the Source GCR to see if that helps.

I greatly appreciate your help on this. It has been bugging me for a while. I will let you know if that helps.

      Blessings!

Re: Canon ImagePress C750 Print Using Black Only Problem

Well, I figured out the problem. I was using PDF XChange Editor as my PDF program to print from. I have several PDF programs. I tried them all, but the only one that would work to make the ImagePress C750 print black text, etc., using only black is Adobe Acrobat Reader DC. I am sure there are others available that will work, but this one gives me the best results of anything I have tried so far. I can now print black using only K ink. I verified that the machine counts full black pages as one black copy, while pages with any color on them is counted as a color page in the same document. The key setting in Adobe Acrobat Reader DC is to press the "Advanced" button to the right of the printer properties. Then select "Treat grays as K-only grays." This works great. I appreciate all those who have posted to help.

            Sincerely,
            Berean
