Canon iRA4251 Newer Mac OS.. Cant Print now?
Had a location upgrade from PC to Mac. I'm not that familiar with Mac.!
They had a PC Computer guy try but still cant print
to the Canon iRA4251.
I tried ....it shows up as a printer but wont print.

Is this machine too old now..??
Do i need to go to a print server..??

What Mac OS are they using? Are you installing the correct driver?

Does your printer show up in the "add printer" list after you installed the driver?

Big Sur isn't any different from the older operating systems as far as adding printers.

It might help if you watch this video. It's pretty simple.

Yes it does say add printer...but after adding ...
wont print to it.

Big Sur is Version 11...the newest operating system. Just looking at the drivers on the Cannon website for the Image Runner 4251, the lastest driver is for Version 9. How old is this printer?

wont print to it.

on macs you have to add any options that the printer has.

which no one has asked about.

are the lights on the nic card?

assuming you are using a CAT5 network and not firewire.

can you print internal reports?
if so upload in PDF format.
config/network/error log plz.

what are you using for network?

are there any messages on the display?

do the lights on the copier light up?

is it online?

so many questions so little info...

Phil is correct. I just "assumed" all of this had been covered. It's best to never assume.

Make sure to select LPD instead of IP on the printer install screen.

Make sure you're using the correct driver - don't install the PS3 driver if your machine doesn't have the PS printing option.

If you can't find the Big Sur driver on the Canon USA website (they didn't have it a week or so ago), you can download it from the Canon UK website.

some steps already mentions by others...

First step, open RUI through safari to see if mac can see it.
Download UFRII and extract.
Install driver, with ip address and set to line print daemon.
Use software and find your model in list to add.

The ira4251 was introduced in 10/2013 and discontinued in May 2016. It was replaced by the ira45551 in 2016.

Big Sur was only introduced in Nov 2020.

If you can find a print driver that works with iOS 10.15 Catalina, good chance the print driver will work.

Otherwise, the customer will have to roll back the iOS version to one that works with the ira4251 or replace the copier.

Does the Canon have the optional postscript kit?
Being able to see it but no output sounds like a missing PDL.

IIRC you can install UFRII on a mac.

Guetenprint drivers is another option.
