    The imageRUNNER 7200 / 8500 / 85 / 105:
They have an internal 10 GB hard drive. The hard drive can hold approximately 7,700 pages. Due to the large 10 GB hard drive, This info is from the service guide but you mention having a 20GB HD. It must had been replaced before?

I have heard it can be done, you can put a bigger size HDD, if it accepts the format data file its a possibility. BUT, I heard, so don't quote me on it.

          As Alex stated....it won't work.
Due to the fact that you have to use SST to format any aftermarket drive...SST and the .itf file limits the size of the mailbox...it's in the firmware.
Having said that the mailboxes can be backed up on a regular basis...the files can then be stored elsewhere on the network.
They WILL be encrypted however so if they need to be viewed or accessed again they'll need to be restored.
