    IRC5045i showing e020-0081

    Hie all, I have a color machine showing that error code. Before you give me the RTFM which I probably deserve [emoji28] please help me from your experience. It's my first time with this model.

    Secondly, how do I safely remove ITB unit and the drum units.

      The transfer belt assembly has a screw on either side and I believe two connectors and when you flip the black lever up and slide safely out. You should open the right hand door. The processing unit has a screw on either side and slide straight out on rails and then the drums left right out one at a time. One screw is under the lever for the waste toner and the other is in the slot on the right inside the gray cover

          E020 sub code 0081


          The patch sensor reading is not correct when a sub code of 0081 is seen.
          The sub code is not listed in the manual.

          The shutter for the patch sensor may not be moving correctly when the doors are closed.
          Check the patch sensor shutter is actuating when the door is closed.

          The sensor can be checked using, LEVEL 2 SERVICE MODE>COPIER>DISPLAY>DENS>P LED DA is 3F or lower.

          EXAMPLE:           The machine coding out was 63 and the lab machine was 20.
          A normal setting is 3F or lower. After removing the patch shutter , inspecting it and reinstalling the shutter, the E020 0081 error code was resolved. The shutter was knocked out of place and caused the error code.

          The shutter assy is part of the SENSOR UNIT,REGISTRATION PATCH Part number = FM3-5944-000.

          E020 sub code 0081

          Problem :

          The machine consistently boots up to E020-0081.

          In Service mode Level 2 COPIER>DISPLAY>DENS>P-LED-DA is "0".

          The Patch Sensor Shutter was removed for testing purposes and the SSW was reloaded. PG10 test print outputs normally.

          Several components were replaced to try and resolve this issue including; Patch Sensor Assembly, DC Controller, and Main Controller 2.
          The wiring from the Patch Sensor Assembly (J5046) to the Paper Feed Driver PCB (J207) was checked thoroughly with no fault found.


          Solution :
          In this case, replacing the Paper Feed Driver PCB (FM3-7932-000), resolved the error.

          Error Code E020-0081 is Being Displayed
          Error :
          Error Code E020-0081 is being displayed.
          The code is displayed when the machine is starting up and rotation of the ITB takes place.
          During rotation the Patch Shutter for Patch Detection engages three times in order to stabilize and set the gradation density for image density. Pascal, D-half and ARCDAT take place at this time.

          If the shutter fails to open and close three times, the error code will be displayed.


          Workaround :
          In this case, The Patch Detection Shutter was binding and not opening and closing the required three times.

          Anything that could cause the Shutter to fail to engage three times will cause the code, ex: SL1 fails to engage and disengage, Shutter linkage is broken, as well as the spring to the solenoid may be failing or disconnected from the Shutter Assembly.
