irc3380i faded black print in banded sections

My irc3380i has started producing faded prints in the first quarter and last quarter of the page.

This appears to happen only with black. Printing colour is fine - I've tested with C, M and Y and they're spot on.

The issue seems to come and go, but has been worse recently. I have no idea why it's started appearing.

Where should I start looking?

I just replaced the developer on my C3320F (Japan) which is also known as the C3325i (European countries). Problem solved. USD $500
