    IR C3380 print system

The copier is unable to detect the print system it would appear. Does anyone know the Model/Part Number for this item? Also, is there anything special I might need to do to get the copier to detect the print system (a simulation, perhaps)? I have no experience with Canons unfortunately. This machine was just kind of dumped in our laps with no documentation. Any help would be appreciated.

    Thanks,

    Craig

You would need to activate the printing option with LMS.
To see if the printer kit as been installed, check the counter check button and hit the tab Device configuration. If you don't see anything regarding a printer kit option then its not installed.

I'm pretty sure this print system is hosed. I finally got it to be detected by a PC via USB so I installed drivers and tried a test print. The copier just made a noise and the print job hung. There is also a message on the copier display saying "Check TCP/IP". I can't find the IP address settings anywhere. I'm thinking I want to find out how much a print system replacement would go for to see if the machine is even worth fixing.

I believe all iRC3380s have the universal send installed at the "factory". No simms, but you do need to configure the network settings under the additional functions. If you have configured the static IP, Mask, GW and DNSs, the Canon print driver will discover the unit.

If you are going to be supporting this unit, you may want to get registered with Canon so you can get the service, parts, and advanced user manuals.

Your problem may be that the driver needs to be UFR II as PCL (the one most people try) is an option.

Current drivers available to consumers (and some manuals) may be available via

        Canon USA - imageRUNNER

Addon: You posted as I was still typing. You really need to find a copy of the user manual as step one is to configure the network settings, then load the UFR II print driver.

I found the "Network Settings" and the "TCP/IP Settings", but nowhere does it show IP address settings. Is this because the print board is defective? Like I said, I have no documentation, so any help would be appreciated. I'm just trying to see if this machine is worth keeping for internal office use.

          Thanks,

          Craig

Under TCP/IP settings turn DHCP on and see if it discovers an I.P address.
There's also a PING function in these settings...try to ping the network.
The company that sold it to you may have cleared all the settings for security reasons...as under the system settings>network settings are stored email addresses, server I.P's and the like.
Also...occasionally Canon will DOA a machine and the licenses are swapped out.
This leaves the DOA machine without any print/USEND functions.
A DOA means that a machine had a SERIOUS malfunction and is not to be sold on...but I DO know that they ARE sold on by dodgy dealers.

That's the problem. Under "TCP/IP Settings" the only choices I have are "Use PASV mode for FTP", "Certificate Settings" and "Proxy Settings". That's why I think the print system is hosed. By the way, the machine was given to us, we didn't buy it.

You should call a service tech that is trained on that machine, you can set DHCP on, but that will only get you an address if DHCP is enabled on the server.

Since the machine was given to you, possibly it had a imagepass. I've seen those options,"Use PASV mode for FTP", "Certificate Settings" and "Proxy Settings" This only appears when the machine has a imagepass. All network protocols are done thru the print server. If you look at the control panels LCD, if you see an printer tab chances are you are missing the print server (image pass or fiery).

Go into service mode the imageRUNNER may be switched in the imagePASS mode (IMG-CONT 3 or 4) and needs to be switched off that mode to show the Network Settings option.
                  1. Enter Service mode (Additional Functions > 2 & 8 > Additional Functions).
                  2. Select Copier > Option > INT-FACE > IMG-CONT.
                  3. Change the setting to "0" and press OK.
                  4. Power Cycle the imageRUNNER
If you want to print you would need that print server otherwise you may have to purchase some sort of printing optional accessory.

The Network Settings option should now be available within the System Settings menu of Additional Functions. If it is not available after setting the IMG-CONT setting to "0" even if it was set to "0" already then perform a "CLEAR-MMI".
                  1. Enter Service mode (Additional Functions > 2 & 8 > Additional Functions).
                  2. Select Copier > Function > CLEAR > CLEAR-MMI.
                  3. Highlight "CLEAR-MMI" and press OK.
                  4. Power Cycle the imageRUNNER.
Only do a MMI clear if you are not able to see network options.
If you perform a MMI clear before changing the IMG-CONT setting to "0"
the machine will respond slowly or freeze up. Please take this last note into consideration. Good luck and post back,

                  Screwtape!

                    Then adjust network settings.
When network settings have appropriately been made, turn off and then back on the main power.

                      Screwtape,

You are the man! I figured it was either some kind of service mode setting similar to the way you have to switch a bizhub over when you install/remove a Fiery or the print system was fubar. Thanks for your help. I got it connected and ran some pretty decent looking prints. We will probably keep this machine. Thanks again, I really appreciate your help.
