    irc3200 and dual interface

Scenario: two organisations sharing an office, the later arrival is our client and they brought with them a Canon irc3200. This is the superior printer in the office and due to space considerations it has been decided that the two organisations will share that printer. The do however require that the two networks remain separate.

On other occassions with ir2200 and ir3300 models, we have been able to install a parallel port and then add a print server to the parallel port - giving a two NIC interface to the one machine.

A call to Canon gave me the answer that the irc3200 will not support dual nics and will not even support the simultaneous operation of a NIC and a parallel port.

So, my question is: does this sound right? Why would an ir2200 support two interfaces but not the irc3200?
I realise we can work around this with network changes, but our first preference would be to simply provide a second interface into the resource being shared.
    Any ideas?

    TIA,
    David

I believe that only the U.S. 3220's have a parallel port...in Australia ours have USB.
I also believe that the parallel/USB port is only for loading Universal Send.
Printing is done via the NIC.
Although the boards inside the machine resemble a motherboard in a PC they're not.
You have one slot for one NIC.
You DO have a choice though...you can attach a C1 fiery to the machine which is a stand alone print server or you can make do with the Canon NIC .

The US 3200's and 3220"s do not have parallel Only usb and NIC, as far as why one supports and the other does not, lets see different image processors, one black and white the other color, different all the way around.

        Thanks for the replies.

Infomation on support for a parallel port came from Canon Australia.

Would you please provide more information (and costing) on a "C1 fiery"?

Also, when you refer to making do "with the Canon NIC" are you referring to the NIC that comes standard or to a Canon add-on?

        Thanks.

When talking to Canon Australia the lingo is "Canon Board" when referring to the NIC and it's an optional accessory.
When the machines came from the factory they had no print capability out of the box ...you had to purchase either a Canon Print Kit...which comprised a NIC and an "N" Bootrom OR a standalone C1 Printserver (Fiery).
As for pricing a C1 Fiery you'll have to Contact Canon Australia on their Sydney number on 1800 334 346.
          That's the BISG sales dept.
They can also email you details and specifications for the C1 Fiery.
