The sole purpose of service support tool is to maintain the system software loaded on the hard drive & boot roms. Whether it is formating, writing software to the hard drive, or backing up stuff before you write the new software to the drive. I do not know of what you are referring to when you speak of counters though?

I don't use the back up function much,, I am usually dealing with dead machines, and there is no way to back up anything in those instances.
