    Canon IR2200 x2 networking issue

We have added on an additional Canon IR2200 to our existing network (currently running Mac OS and XP) and have had no issues with our existing IR2200 networked thoughout. The additional 2nd IR2200 has the following settings and boot rom.

    PS/PCL 30.06
    LIPS _
    MN-CONT 45.01
    BOOT-ROM 23.40N
    DIAG DVC _
    RUI 32.03
    PUNCH _
    LANG EN 33.01

    The issues are:
    1. Unable to install or be seen on network
    2. "check TCP/IP" always displayed on front panel

This is what we have done so far:

    - A new network PCB and boot rom where fitted to the 2nd IR2200, PCL5e software driver was installed directly from Canon website
    - Installation was attempted on both the Windows and Mac systems both as a newtork printer and as a local printer, failed to find and connect.

This IR2200 was purchased from a previous owner, the management ID and password are lost, not sure if this is affecting the installation.

The major difference between the two IR200's is that the existing one has the following settings and devices installed and works perfectly:

    MN-CONT 20.01
    BOOT ROM 07.25N
    RUI 20.01

Any advice would be grately appreciated

Have you put in the IP address into the copier yet, put it on the same network? After you put in the setting, you need to turn the machine OFF, then ON for the setting to take effect.

I like Kuby's thinking on this one, the copier is stating it cannot see the network, many times I am called to look at a machine that has changes made, and then was not restarted. I like to diagnose down to basic connectivity with laptop and crossover cable. This eliminates customer network till I can verify the copier and lappy can talk to each other, ping, RUI, print.

      happy hunting!

          It's a new NIC...
You could try turning DHCP on at the machine and see if it picks up an I.P address but make sure that the I.P settings,Gateway and DNS settings are all entered correctly.
If I was at a 2200 that had just had a new NIC and still couldn't have it see the network I'd be looking at the I.P details.

Why don't you try printing out user data list from report settings in additional functions and check if the settings match up with the other 2200. Check auto detect and make sure its on. If its a new nic card or if its swap from a working machine and it still doesn't work! Maybe you have bad main controller, THIS of course is probably the last thing that it could be, but just keep looking. Have you tried connecting to the machine directly with a laptop. How is this machine connected to to the network, is it connected to a active port in a wall, or are you connecting to hub or a switch?

Thankyou for all your help...It appears we cannot get past the Management ID & Password (previous owner were unable to pass on/forgot) and when at the Network settings service page there is no option other than PING.

How can we remove/bypass the management ID/password setting so that we can enable DHCP etc...

Also I printed out the network settings report, and you are all correct that the new IR2200 is set up quite different, netware settings are not in the list on the new IR200 but are listed on the existing IR2200..

              Your advice please....

You are going to need to clear the password, here is the procedure:
                Service mode > Copier > Function > Clear > PWD-CLR

Use it to clear the password of the system administrator in user mode.
                Using the Mode
                1) Select <PWD-CLR> to highlight, and press the OK key.
                2) Turn off and then on the main power switch.

If all else fails,, format hard drive and reload system software.

                Hope this helps...

Thankyou all, in the service mode, using >PWD-CLR / OK, turn off, then turn on deleted the management ID and Password...Great!

Then going into the network settings and entering the appropriate IP settings etc did the job..

Many thanks again for your suggestions and service advice, this web forum is definately a great place and I'm glad its here.

System software has not been correctly installed on your copier. Whoever did it obviously didn't bother to check that everything that should have been updated was.

MN-CONT is 45.01 implies that you should have 26.44N for BOOT-ROM. RUI should be v42.01. Language should be v45.01. Some of the other numbers may be wrong too, but I can't remember them off the top of my head.

If you're still having problems this could be the issue. You need SST (Service Support Tool), IR2200N firmware and either a nethawk (special canon usb-to-parallel) cable or a IEEE1284 parallel cable. If you need help upgrading the firmware post back. If you've tried using SST before you should've upgraded using the ALL option (don't use ALL_HDF as that includes Hard Drive Format) and selected overwrite (to make sure all existing software gets overwritten).

If you're not having problems you'll still probably find the following: RUI (Remote User Interface) won't work. This is accessed by typing http://ipaddressofcopier. Language may become an issue if you try to use aspects of the system software that have changed since the language version you use was released.

When you say you put a new boot rom and network PCB in the copier, was there one in there before? If so, it could still be working and useful to keep as a spare or sell (if you are prepared to test it in one of your machines to make sure it still works).
