[Misc] IR Advance C5560i II Copy & Print Slows dramatically after about 20 pages

I'm not a technician but I have 7 Canon copiers and about 40 HP LaserJets. The LaserJets I service on my own, and have had service contracts with Canon for all of my copiers. But, I am on the island of Maui in Hawaii and Canon lost their service rep here last year and won't replace him. So now Canon won't extend my annual service contract on this unit or any of my other Canons after they run out of service at different times this year. After 15 years with Canon, it's pretty frustrating!

Anyway, this C5560i is my newest machine, about 4 years old, looks brand new, and has about 85k total imprints. My service contract on it ran out around January of this year and can't be renewed.

It prints BW or Color from network, USB, and direct USB as well as copy just fine and at normal speeds until it hits about 20-30 prints/copies, then it slows to a crawl at about 1 per 10-seconds. So if I'm printing 500 of a single US letter duplex document, the first 20 or so come out just fine, then it's really slow on the rest. I have been working around this by printing sets of 50 so at least about 1/2 come out fast, then print another 50, etc., etc.

There are no error messages, no errors showing up in Service Mode, and again it happens regardless of it being BW/Color, print or copy, and it's pulling regular paper from a main paper tray.

Any suggestions on what I could check would be appreciated. I can get into Service Mode, check/remove things like drums, transfer belts, etc., but I'm no service technician by any means, so expert ideas are welcomed!

    Thanks in advance! -Daniel

    Hello Daniel!

    I'm glad I can help.
The fuser unit is usually the reason for slower printing. The paper cools it during printing and the heater does not keep up with the temperature, so it slows down the printing. To be sure, go to service mode/copier/analog while printing and observe the temperature variation. If it drops drastically, the heater is bad.
I suggest that you first update the printer to the latest version.
    Service mode/updater/last firmware by date
