Canon IR c3200 - Network Scanning (Simple - Shared Folder)

I am trying to perform simple scanning from a networked Canon IR c3200. The machine has an IP address on the local network. The software driver CNSG242.exe has been loaded on to two different machines (during troubleshooting) both XP PCs can can detect the IR c3200 but then "selecting" it seems to do nothing. I did not load the ColorNWSGv243.exe driver yet and I'm not sure what it does, what the difference is from the previous driver and thus, if I need it.

On the machine we can scan a document to one of the mail box folders within the IR c3200 but we can't see how to get the machine to find a simple shared folder on this P2P network. All the PCs can print to the copier and detect it from the scangear program. The printer is currently networked via RJ45 directly to the router.

So close and yet so far, seems like we are missing one last small piece of the puzzle. Any help would be greatly appreciated.

You have to put the Color Network Scangear on the computer. It tells the computer that there is a Canon Color Scanner on your network. The scan feature will not work without it.

You have to load it, and test it throught the scangear software first before it will scan with word, abobe acrobat,or what every you are using to scan with.

Do you have the Send option on your copier?? If your are trying to scan to a network folder then you also need this. (universal send)

Thanks Kuby. Do you mean I need the ...243 software in addition to the ...242 software I already have loaded?

One is CNSG242 (already loaded) and the other one is ColorNWSG243 (not yet loaded).

Also the Browser interface for the IR c3200 had no real functions available. I was looking for a place to designate a simple shared folder for the IR to drop scans to. Should I be able to do everything through the browser interface that I can do at the machine's console? Thanks again

If you are trying to scan to a folder on the network, you must have the send feature (universal send kit), if your not sure, look at the control panel screen and if you see a send tab then you have the option. this must be setup in the address book settings, File, SMB, then browse the network and find the file folder. You can't scan to a folder using the scan option that come with the machine, this is a standard option that comes with the unit and does not perform in that way. You scan the document using any application like word, adobe when using this generic scan option. Hope this helps if this was the answer you was looking for.

          Scan options...

Like Kuby and Screwtape have aluded to, you have to have Universal Send installed on the copier to "push" a document from the copier to a PC. With Color Scangear loaded on the PC, after you have configured it to correctly connect to the copier, you should be able to "pull" a document from the copier to the PC. The PC is the device that initiates the scanning, usually as an Import feature in some software programs.

Thanks for trying guys, I'm still stumped here.

I appreciate you trying to give this a bit more help with some additional data from me here. I already had the scangear tool installed and now have tried both versions of that software (242 & 243). I can detect and select the IR c3200 but selecting it does absolutely nothing (nothing happens). I thought it might open some more options or even a mgmt interface with the IR c3200 but no such luck. the IP address that comes up for the IR c3200 does not bring me to any sort of mgmt interface either when entered into a browser. It brings up a page for the IR c 3200 but only lets me activate or deactivate 4 seemingly useless items (which are already activated. Finally, this IR c3200 has a fiery server mounted on the back of it and the page that comes up for that IP says Fiery... coul dthis have somethign to do with whats holding me back? Am I getting an address for the Fiery but somhow not the IR c3200? I do not have Universal Send... just want to retrieve a simple scanned document from the IR via teh PC. Help?

Since you have a fiery this changes your situation with scanning
because the fiery is the device that gets configure with an ip address. The machine has no printer kit or universal send then the machine won't be able to scan. If you had universal send you would be able to push scan, send that is.

                Hi Jeff,
I am not sure if you understand what Scangear is in this situation. It merely acts as the driver in the scanning operation, it does not actually initiate the scanning. We normally have e-Copy as the application, but it could be literally any software that acquires images through an import feature such as Photoshop, or OmniPage etc... Hope this helps!

Thanks again guys. What I need to find out next is... what is the Fiery server for? What will I be loosingwhen I just go ahead and connect the network directly to the IR c3200 and bypass the Fiery? The Fiery might not even be of use to us and might have been added by a someone else who had a use for it. I'd just like to know what a Fiery does and what I will be loosing. Thanks very much for your answers. I do understand now that when I do get this scanning working it will only serve to scan and I will have to use the PC to go and get the scanned images from the IR c3200. Still kind of amazes me that this thing can't just drop a scanned image into a sharred network folder... what a waste...

The Fiery allows for faster printing of images as well as a little greater color depth, that is my understanding of it. Ripping the image in the Fiery is quicker than in the 3200. Also, something you will encounter if you try to remove the Fiery from the picture is that you cannot get the 3200 on your network,, because in the Fiery configuration, the copier uses a "C" (copier) boot rom. To get this on your network, you would have to acquire an "N" (network) boot rom.

And finally to your scanned images,,, the process will not get the images from the 3200 hard drive, the 3200 does not scan your image and place it in a folder. In this scenario, the pc pulls the images from the scanner directly, much as a flat bed scanner, the scanner does not store the image but merely reads it for the pc.

As to dropping an image into a shared network folder,,, that is what Universal Send can do, if you had that feature installed, that is exactly what it could do. Kind of like accessories for a car, if you did'nt buy a GPS system,, you don't know where you are
