    ARRGGHHH..!!!
Don't you just LOVE weird left of field error codes?
I have a machine that from day one has thrown up an E674-0008 fax pcb error.
It USED to be infrequent...but it's now at the stage where it is in a constant state of error if I leave the fax kit installed....remove the fax and the machine behaves like a champ.
So far I've been given a new fax kit and main controller to try to fix the issue....
    I've tried:OLD MAIN CONTROLLER+NEW FAX KIT=N.G
    NEW MAIN CONTROLLER+OLD FAX KIT=N.G
    NEW MAIN CONTROLLER+NEW FAX KIT=N.G.
As well as reloading/upgrading all system software.
I've ordered a new DC controller today to trial that....as there IS a DC component plug into the fax kit.
For those that don't know what E674-0008 is ..it simply means that you have the wrong model fax kit fitted to the wrong model machine....which is NOT the case here.

Sounds like you have got it narrowed down.I havent seen anything else other than the DC cont. to make this E-code go away. You have covered the bases well.

With the 2200 series machines you could try this:

        Symptom
After installing the fax option and powering on the iR, an E674-0008 error appears on the display.

        Action
In general, this error can occur when there is a problem with the 40-pin yellow data cable. Most of the fax kits you encounter will have at least 4 connectors, similar to the photo below. In some cases, one or more of these connectors will be located at the top, bottom, or side of the kit. Ensure that all connectors are plugged in correctly on the kit-side as well as on the iR side. Reseat both ends of all four cables, where feasible. Also, be prepared to replace the 40-pin yellow data cable.

I know this sounds stupid, but is the speaker plugged in? Some of these will code out if speaker is not plugged in or loose. Its on the left side of machine under upper left panel.
The glass maybe half full, but less is more...
Printer + Fax + Copier = Jack Of Many Trades,
          but Master Of None
Color Copier = Not A Color Printer
InkJet MFP = Not A Fax Machine
          B/W Copier = Not A Press
Finisher = Deal Closer (salesman, not accessory)
Copier Tech = Admin's Stress Ball (Scapegoat)

            You know what?
            That's not stupid at all....
The speaker IS plugged in BUT when the machine sits idle I can hear a feint clicking sound coming from the speaker and I haven't heard it before from any other fax...still waiting for that DC controller though.
