    Canon IR3100c

Hi guys I have a canon which when started will only go up 3/4 way on the indicator bar and then it must be freezeing up, I have tried holding 1-9 and starting the machine to format drive but when it's finished it just does the same thing, has anyone got any ideas or know how to help..Thanks in advance.

I had a 5000 doing the same thing. No error codes, would not perform scandisk. It turned out to be the HDD.
Is the glass half full or half empty? I say neither. The glass is obviously full, full of potential. The potential to hold more water or the potential to quench a thirst. Life is all about how you see it.

Just curious, does it have an imagepass and has anyone cleared MMI recently?

No a 3100c shouldn't have an imagepass . Have you tried reseatting the ram and boot chips?

The boot chip should be on the main controller next to the RAM. It lies flat. Just be sure you are unplugged from the wall.

Hi I removed a small chip beside the hard drive IDE cable and replaced it again making sure it was firmly in place but it dosent seem to make any difference, The machine is still only loading 3/4 way up on the indicator..
                  Thanks

Hello hooperc, It sounds very much like you have a hard drive that will not load the rest of the code needed to complete the bootup of the copier. The 1&9 startup procedure does not do anything more than scandisk does for a harddrive in a pc. It does not format the drive. You are going to need Service Support Tool & System Software for the copier, that is if your hard drive is not crapped out, If so you will also need a new hard drive. It is easiest if you get the same mfg/model hard drive that is in the copier now.

Hi thanks very much for the advice, do you know where would be the best place to obtain something like this, ie will a hard drive from the same model do or will I need a new one installed.. Also where would I be able to obtain the software needed to do this and will it be hard to run, Because I live somewhat in the sticks in Ireland it's very costly to get an engineer to come out here and probably cst more than the machine would be worth...Thanks

You can get the hdd anywhere that sells it. The important thing is that canon has a list of drives in a file in the system software that you can use. It's easiest to get a drive on the list e.g. the exact same model hdd as you currently have.

If you can't read the hdd model number of the drive already in your machine, your next best idea is to read the list of drives in the HDFormat.ift file included in the system software. Basically open up that file in a text editor and read it. Search on the net for a store near you that sells the drive.

e.g. for the IRC3100 I've found an example that is a SAMSUNG SP4002H. I have no idea whether this drive is any good or not or how easy it is to get.

If you can't get a hdd on the list you'll need to take a look at Copytechnet.com

and try doing what it suggests.

It should be pretty much the same process for the IRC3100 as for the IR3300 (except using the IRC3100 files of course).
