    Formatting hard drive problems

Hi guys im tryin to format the hard drive in my ir3100c and when I connect the crossaver cable to the network it keeps changing from connected to unplugged, when I take the machine out of download mode it connects ok but as it has to be in download mode there is nothing I can do. Is there any way I can format the hard-drive via the numercial panel or other way..
    Thanks for any help..

Try using the parallel port (if there is one) with a bi-centronics IEEE1284 parallel cable. It's an old copier so maybe it doesn't have fixed IP in the download mode (or if it does, it may not work the best) that allows you to format the hdd.

A parallel port on a Canon copier typically has a small protective cover over it. It looks similar to File:Centronics-36F.jpg - Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

You can see that picture in context on Parallel port - Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

Also, you do know that if the copier has fixed IP that it uses a special IP address when it's in download mode that's different to what it's set to when on your network. Your computer's ethernet needs to have the same subnet mask 255.255.255.0. Use something like 172.16.1.101 as the IP address for your computer. Then launch command prompt and type ipconfig /all.

Hopefully you'll see the IP address of the copier and just be able to type it in.

3100 does'nt have paralell - have you tried another laptop?
have you checked yor crossover cable on another machine?
on your laptop put in under network - tcp/ip alternate ip config ,to mstop it dropping out
what sort of packet loss are you getting on ping?

        Laptop network settings
        IP address: 172.16.1.160
        Subnet mask: 255.255.255.0

        Use Crossover cable

Use safe mode for the following:
        -after replacing the HDD.

        -Safe Mode(Download mode A)
(While pressing 2+8, turn on the main power switch.)

Then go into the SST and choose format!
