    Canon iR6000 connecting to MacBook

Hello - great forum! I hope you can help me out.

I have a Canon Imagerunner 6000 that I am trying to use through my MacBook (Mac OSX 10.5.7, Intel Core 2 Duo 2.4 GHz)

I'm running it through a direct Ethernet connection (*and yes, I am using a crossover cable).

My problem: Every time I try to print, this is the message: "Network host '169.254.245.156' is busy; will retry in 20 seconds..."

    Here are the technical facts:

The network settings on the printer are as follows (and this is taken through the Remote UI):

    Physical Interface : Ethernet
    Ethernet Driver Settings :Auto Detect
    MAC Address : 0000850CA32F
    Use SNMP : Off
    Enable Dedicated Port : On

    DHCP : On
    RARP : Off
    BOOTP : Off
    IP Address : 169.254.245.156
    Subnet Mask : 255.255.0.0
    Gateway Address : 0.0.0.0
DNS Server IP Address : 0.0.0.0
    Secondary Server : 0.0.0.0
    DNS Dynamic Update : Off
    WINS Resolution : Off
WINS Server IP Address : 0.0.0.0
    Node Type : b Node
    Scope ID :

    Use LPD : On
    LPD Banner Page : On
    Use RAW : Off
    Use Bidirectional : Off
    Use IPP : Off
    Use HTTP : On

    RX/Print Range
    Reject IP Address : Off
    Permit IP Address : Off

    Setting/Browsing Range
    Reject IP Address : Off
    Permit IP Address : Off

    SMB
    Use SMB : Off
    Server : canon
    Printer : iR6000
    Workgroup :

    Comment :

    LM Announce : On

So - I CAN talk to my printer through the network. The Printer CAN ping my laptop. So - I know that the network "works" ...ish

As for how I'm setting up the printer:
I'm using LPD, with the IP address of 169.254.245.156 (which matches), and I'm using the latest driver CNIR50X1.PPD (and I've tried earlier drivers).

Anyone have any idea what's up?

I'd like to Print directly from my computer, but I cannot.

Sorry for the longwinded note - but I'm a bit frustrated. Any help would be greatly appreciated!

    THANKS!

ALSO: If anyone has any idea how to enable Appletalk on this Copier, I'd be doubly grateful!

    Mpipkin,

If you can ping it then you have established the main important part of the process. Now as for DHCP its your choice if you want to leave this on. I will use DHCP if i want to pick up an ip address in the that network community. I normally turn it off afterwards so that it doesn't release.

Make sure your subnet reads as follow:255.255.255 ,
I believe LPD Banner Page should be off, your Raw setting should be on and Use SNMP : Off, this should be on.

With the new Mac 10.5 Leopard some of the classic menus and buttons have been changed inside the operating system. Please review the following to configure the PS driver on the Mac.

    1. Click the + [Add] button inside the Print & Fax menu.

    2. Next choose the More Printers option which is now located on the top right of the menu.

    3. In the next menu you can define the protocol [Canon IP PS] based on your purchased printer kit.

** Add the correct IP address and the queue name of lp

Locate your Printer Setup Utility is another way to set up mac drivers

The 'Printer Setup Utility' was an application in Mac OS X that served to allow the user to configure printers physically connected to the computer, or connected via a network.

In Mac OS X 10.5 (Leopard), the 'Printer Setup Utility' was removed and its features placed in the 'Print & Fax' System Preferences page.

To add a printer in Mac OS 10.5 Leopard:

    1. Click the Apple menu and select [System Preferences].

    2. Select [Printer & Fax].

    3. Click the [+] button below the list of printers on the left side of the screen.
I think the apple talk setting is in systems setting under additional functions, Hope this helps you out.

I added the printer using Canon IP PS, and it seems to find my Copier right away - finds the driver and everything.

But still no luck. I've added the printer using the queue name "lp" and also leaving the queue name blank.

      Thoughts??

I'll include some screen shots below.

If I may.. This copier, was you able to print to it before. Do you have any other computer connected?

Did you look into the apple talk setting in system setting under network settings>apple talk settings. Are they enable :ON
Under the service name: Type in (IR6000)
The zone, I guess you can browse.

Is appletalk active on the Macbook?

Are you rebooting the Mac and the IR6000?

If AppleTalk is missing from the network setup on the iR6000, that's a sure sign that the MFP doesn't have Postscript. (I'll dig to see if I can find a screenshot of this, and pot it if I do.)

The ir6000 is old enough a model that it can't do UFRII printing from a Mac, as most of the newer machines can. Without Postscript, you'll never print from a Mac.

I've been burned on a number of installs like that over the years, for whatever reason, either the PS option didn't get installed, ordered, etc...

Please let us know how this goes!

I have found that most of the Canons will NOT print a test page with the newer Macs, Try printing a word doc or anything but a test page.

                mac ip

i am not very familiar with mac so i am not sure on how to ping from there,
may i ask wat is the IP address of your Mac?
you can also ping your mac from the ir6000 machine.

go to system settings > network settings > tcp/ip > ping command

from there you can key-in your mac IP address and press start.

                hope this can help
