    iR C3100 - printing

    Canon iR C3100

Can this machine be hooked up to print without the ImagePass box? I hooked it up and cleared out the MMI, reset the network connections. Loaded PCL5 drivers and set it up on network. Can RUI to it and see it on the network, but will not print. Anyone ever got one of these to print without the ImpassPass box?

    Thanks

You might need a printer kit. This machine and like any other machine can have the option to have imagepass or a printer kit.

Not neccassarily, the port is on all 3100 boxes, because it was designed in for the portal that we use for upgrading/restoring system software. Printing is only supported on the copier if a print kit is installed, or if it has an imagePASS installed on it.

They all have network ports, regardless if configured to be a printer or not.

There are many ways to verify to see if it's there, but one of the easiest is to get into your network settings, and see if NetWare (IPX / SPX) is greyed out.

If it is, you don't have the print option.

AppleTalk will be un-greyed if you have the PostScript option. I don't remember if this machine included PostScript with the print kit or not.

Will it print if I set it up and use the UFR drivers?

I just checked the Canon site.

The UFR functionality should be there; it was standard on the C3100 and C3100N.

The PCL / PS is optional, although standard on the C3100N model.

Of course, if you came by this machine used, your mileage may vary.

If it had an imagePASS installed in its former life, some work may be required to make it print on its own.

When you send a print job does the processing light blink,
It would be recommended to see first whether you have kit installed by checking the counter check button and check device configuration. This will tell you which printer kit you have installed, so that you can use the right print driver. Its a possibility that the recommended print driver would be a UFR, try it out.

I used UFRII to print to a iR3100 machine that never done any add-ons like printer kit or ps kit....i think mostly can use...just for basic printing.

Like Screwtape said, thanks for posting back.

It's always nice to know when stuff works out!!

                        FYI...

Machines that use use the UFRII (such as this one) can also print from Macintosh OSX 10.3 or higher.

Most other devices on the market require PostScript.

Pretty well any Canon...if it has network card you can print to it UFR...if you want PCL printing you need a PDL print kit and if you want true Postscript you need a fiery RIP(imagepass,Colorpass, etc)
