    IRC 3200 scanning problem

    Hi ,

My client takes prints from the printer and scans them .
When he scans the printed page in the computer, the colors in the scanned image and the print out are not matching.

The client asks for the exact matching of the colors.

To achieve this what can be done ?

    Please advice.

    Thanks.

Try using the highest quality settings you can. This should give the best quality you can get. Try different settings and compare the results. No scanner is perfect. It's a lot easier to have B&W scanning that looks good than to get colour scanning that looks good.

Colour scanning may have improved since the IRC 3200. If so, if exact colours are really important then the customer may find it advisable to get a newer machine (I'd check to see if it looks better before recommending that) or a device dedicated to scanning of colour documents.

Btw. When you say the colours are not matching how bad is it? Is it just another shade of the same colour or worse? Has the customer every scanned in before and got the colours to match exactly?

Make sure the machine, firmware is up to date.
Do a auto gradation. How is the drum life?
To get spot on color, a Fiery is recommended.
this machine has alway been this way with color.

The newer model have a upgraded generation version of a main controller like iRC5185,3380,C1+.
The new image chip that newer main controller has, allows the machine to have better output. This is also something to suggest to your client as well as a fiery

        Hi bnmand,
The client takes print outs and marks some changes with different colored pens(may be ).
Then scans them and takes prints. The oragne color marked by pen is scanned as light brown and pink turns a shade of red.

This is worrying him and inturn me .

He says the colors must match exactly , which is a prerequisite in his project.

I feel the scanning efficiency of 3200 is not good.

        Kindly advice me .

        Thanks.

            Latest firmware v90.03.

To do a auto gradation, which is preferred before a any job and though the machine does it on its own.

I always put the auto gradation short cut on the main screen. to do so.
Hit the Additional Functions button and select Copy Settings. Select Standard Key 1 Settings, scroll down 7 screens using the bottom down arrow, then select the Auto Gradation button. Then select OK . Push the yellow reset button to return to the main screen. The Auto Gradation button should now appear at the bottom of the screen.

Here are the instructions for auto gradation , very simple.

On the imageRUNNER, there are two types of gradation adjustments available:

I.) Quick Adjustment: This is a quick and simple adjustment that is made to the gradation, density, and color settings of the machine. Recalibrations are made internally without outputting any test prints.
In order to perform the Quick Adjustment :
            1. Press the Additional Functions button.
            2.Select Adjustment/Cleaning.
            3.Choose Auto Gradation Adjustment.
4.Select the paper type for the gradation adjustment.
            5. Press Quick Adjust.
            6.Hit Start.
            7.Press Done.
Note: The machine automatically adjusts the amount of toner and the speed of printing depending on the paper type selected.
II.) Full Adjustment: This is a precise recalibration that is made to the gradation, density, and color settings of the machine. The procedure involves making test prints and placing them on the platen glass for scanning. Once this is complete, the machine automatically corrects the irregularities.
In order to perform the Full Adjustment:
            1. Press the Additional Functions button.
            2.Select Adjustment/Cleaning.
            3.Choose Auto Gradation Adjustment.
4.Select the paper type for the gradation adjustment.
            5. Hit Full Adjust.
6.Press Test Print 1 (the message 'Printing' appears and Test Print 1 is printed out).
7.Place the first test print on the platen glass. It should be placed face down on the platen glass, with the black bands along the top left edge of the platen glass by the arrow.
8.Press Start Scan (the message 'Scanning' appears).
9.Remove the first test print from the platen glass and press Test Print 2.
10.Place the second test print on the platen glass.
            11.Press Start Scan.
            12. Remove the second test print from the platen glass and press Test Print 3.
13.Place the third test print on the platen glass.
            14. Press Start Scan. When scanning is complete, the gradation adjustment begins. The message 'Adjusting' appears.
            * Note - When the machine is finished adjusting the gradation settings, the message 'Full Adjustment Complete' appears for two seconds.
            15. Remove the third test print from the platen glass and press Done.
What about the scanning, he must be using a network scangear tool.
This is problem that your having, about 10% of a chance you might have in resolving this. Do your best by doing everything you know.

Tell him if he want to adjust colors,
            1. Buy a fiery.. In this a C1 imagePass.
            2. Get software, Adobe got some good Apps. Then maybe he can scan PDF rather than Tiff or JPEG.

This machine is business color so its not good when it comes to graphic printing.

The machine has a C1 fiery.
The main problem is , when I take a print out the colors are good. When the same page is scanned and printed , the colors change like blue become black and pink becomes red.
I doubt the scanner. Can we enhance the scanner capability.
Also, can I get the latest version of firmware for IRC 3200.
Anyways I will perfrom these steps and get back to you.

              Thanks.

What scan method are you using since you have a fiery the network scan tool can not be use.

                Fiery scan or universal send?
Try using the highest DPI setting.
Also, a post script driver is recommended.

When you do a auto gradation then use must calibrate the fiery.

                  SCREWTAPE ,
I am using color network scan gear and adobe professional 6.0 to scan the paper.
I have send kit in one of my machine ,can the send option be tested for a single computer ?

                  Also, calibrate the fiery ?
                  Thanks.

                    Yes.

Do you have a printer tab on the LCD?

Do have any other problems with other files.
                    This too is common.

                    What print driver are using?

You can also try doing a CCD adjust.
                    Copier>Function>CCD>CCD-ADJ
Press the OK key. The operation starts. When the operation finishes, it stops automatically.
