Cannon Image Runner 2200 scanner problems

My scanner is saying it is not intialized when I am trying to scan something in.
I think I need to put in the IP address of the scanner? Does anyone know how to find that?

If you haven't already, get the Canon Network ScanGear Tool. Install that on your computer. Don't get the Color one. I use Network ScanGear v2.21. It is available on the following webpage: Canon U.S.A., Inc. Drivers & Downloads Device Management Software

You may already have the tool installed though from your question.

Open the tool. I think you may find your copier is already there. If not press the discover button. A list of compatible devices on your network should appear. Select the one you want.

If you have multiple devices you can go to the copier and do the following:

Press Additional Functions (has a * on the button) > System Settings >Network Settings > TCP/IP settings > IP address. The IP address is in there.

Alternatively if it is set up as a printer on your network you should be able to find out the IP address by looking at the properties of the printer.

Important: before attempting to scan something in press the options/system button (name varies by region) on the copier. It's the far right button of the set that also includes Copy, Fax and Mailbox. Press Online. This turns the scanner online.

Open the program you wish to use for scanning e.g. Adobe Acrobat and make sure it is set up to use the ScanGear Tool.

You should be able to scan in your document now.

When finished don't forget to go back to the copier and press offline so it can be used for photocopying again.

Thanks for the reply!! I've got it installed already. When I got to the scanner it is not listed and when I hit discover it doesn't find anything? Any ideas of how to find out the IP address to enter it?? I found the IP address for my computer and tried that but it didn't work.

You can't use the IP address for your computer. Do you use the copier as a printer?

If not, you may not have entered the network settings in your copier properly.
After checking the IP address using the procedure I outlined in my edited post above if you don't find anything do the following:

Go back to your computer and note down the following:
Your IP address may be 192.168.1.X. Note down the first three of the four numbers. Your copier must use the same first three numbers, the X can be any unused number on your network from 0 to 255.

Copier must use exact same subnet mask as your computer e.g. 255.255.255.0

Gateway address I believe is optional and not necessary.

I'd turn DHCP on. Turn copier off and then on and then turn DHCP off.

You should now have a static IP address.

Once you have a valid IP address either press Discover in the ScanGear Tool and it should find your device or press IP address in the ScanGear Tool and enter it manually.

yes I use it as my printer as well....
The IP address for the copy/printer/scanner machine is entered in the ScanGear Tool. It shows 192.168.1.105 on the machine as you said to find it.
It was working fine then yesterday I had a friend fix the internet explorer because it kept locking up so I'm assuming it has something to do with that???
I think he upgraded to a new version of explorer?
          Would that cause the issue??
          Thanks for your help!

No, I don't think upgrading Internet Explorer should cause this issue. I use an IR3300 (high end in IR2200 series) with Internet Explorer 8 and have no problems with scanning, but I guess it is possible.

Have you tried scanning in from a different computer? Does it work on that one? If yes then the issue is definitely on your computer.

Did your friend do anything else apart from upgrading Internet Explorer e.g. setup a firewall? If so, you may need to setup the copier's IP address as a Trusted IP address in your firewall and/or make the Network ScanGear Tool a trusted program. I'd get your friend to come back to see if he/she can help.

Can you print to the copier from your computer. Can you access RUI at http://192.168.1.105 (in your case). Try pinging the copier. Start > Run > cmd. Then type ping 192.168.1.105 -t. If you can't communicate with your copier on any computer then hook up a laptop via a crossover cable if you can. You may have to temporarily change the IP settings. If scanning works using the laptop then there is a problem on your network. Check e.g. for a faulty ethernet cable, router/switch. There is also the possibility of corrupt firmware on the copier or a NIC no longer working properly but those issues would require a service call.

Other things to try Press Test Connection in ScanGear Tool. Does it come up with any error?

The network tshoot pdf referred to in another thread has useful troubleshooting steps. It looks a little old but it has the right steps.

WHen it click Test it says can not connect to selected scanner.
It is not on a network nor is there another computer/laptop that I can try.
I checked the firewall and it says the program is trusted...
any other ideas?? I have been able to print.
              Thanks!

Well that isn't very useful for problem solving. For isolation testing another computer is a good idea. See if your friend has a laptop and crossover cable they can bring over. If your copier is connected directly via one ethernet cable you are using a crossover cable.

You've been able to print so you can communicate with the copier.

Your computer is connected to the copier using ethernet. That is required for scanning. You can't scan over parallel with this copier.

Make sure your copier has scanning set to online when you try to scan.

Your computer and laptop are both using the same IP address range 192.168.1.X, where X is any number from 0-255 and same subnet mask e.g. 255.255.255.0

Try a new ethernet cable. Really without another computer to test with it's hard to work out what's wrong.

I suggest you ask your friend for help and to bring another computer. If not, pay for a service call and get a technician to fix your problem.
