Canon IR2220i-Settings for Scan to Email with Windows Small Business Server

    Hello,

I'm totally new to this topic and I tried to find some information on my issue. Unfortunately I did not find anything. Maybe it's because of the wrong keywords.

We have a Canon IR2220i which I would like to work with our existing Small Business Server 2003. That is to say, I would like that the scanned document is sent by (internal) email to internal user(s).

I did not found any information on how to set the Canon and our Server to do this (have I to register the Canon as a SBS-User?).

I would be happy to get any hint!

    Thanks
    Pino

Have you set the email setting and selected the correct port for SMTP?

      Hello kuby,

      thanks for your support.

Yes, of course, the email-settings have been set. But I think, that there is an error in it. It would be nice to get to know where to set these settings and which settings have to be set in detail.

Where do I select the correct port for SMTP?

Sorry for my bad knowledge. But so far I only have some Win-Server experience...

        Similiar issue with 3570

I had this working yesterday, it seemed to work sporadically at best. I thought I had it when I left, my test messages were going through within a minute of the scan finishing. By the afternoon it would take an hour to two hours before it would be received by the recipient. I made some adjustments, changed the SMTP port to match what we are using in Outlook, however today it does not appear to be working at all. They were using an Exchange server, WINS was enabled as well as SMB Server, but now nothing seems to work. Any ideas?

If you go into addition functions, system settings, network setting I believe, scroll down till you see email\I fax.

Enter the SMTP server info whether its a domain name or the ip address of the SMTP server, give the machine email address, apply the user name and password. Forget about the pop info as we know this is to receive emails which I'm sure you don't expect the machine to receive emails.

Got it working. Yesterday when I originally set everything up, I could not find the SMTP port settings, so they were left at using port 25. I think that's why it was working sporadically. I had changed the DNS from our internal server, which is acting as the DNS for this customer, to the one we have for register.com where we are hosted and now have our email. Today I found the location of the port settings and was able to change it to the one register.com recommended, which was 5125, and it still was not working. So I changed the DNS back to the internal server and once I did that, everything started working. If I had left our DNS as it was and just changed the SMTP port yesterday, everything would have worked from the get go. To bad Canon does not have the port setting on the same page as the SMTP and POP server entry and security information. It only makes sense as that's a vital piece of information. Hope this can help someone else someday. Thanks for your help as well.

Answering a question not asked - Why not just scan to file vs e-mailing it to yourself?

That's a valid question, and that was my initial thought to get this resolved quickly, however, the customer was used to doing it through email with their old exchange server and wanted it to work the same as before. Since they are the customer, I had to oblige. Worst case scenario that would have been my temporary fix, however, the customer is not interested in learning new things when it comes to computers. And to be quite honest, I did want to know why it wasn't working since it was before and should have with the new server settings. It's all good now and I did not receive a phone call from the customer yesterday, which is a good thing.
