    Ir 2220i printing problem

    Hi,
My client has iR 2220i machines.
He prints daily around 4000 copies.
The problem is that when a print is fired from the computer , it takes some time for the prints to come out.
Previously he was using Ir 2230 machine. He says the printing in 2220i is much slower than the 2230 machine.

Is there any possibility to speed up the printing process.

The printer is used in a network and had 2220i PS3 drivers.

    Please suggest.

    Thanks.

    Try using a UFR2 driver.

will it improve the speed ?

The print comes to the machine and the status on the display panel is "processing" and "waiting to print" .

After 3-4 minutes the printer starts printing.

Can UFR2 driver solve the problem ?

      Thanks.

The ir2220 is based on the ir 2200/2800/3300 family. The 2230 is newer technology than the 2220....different generation controllers. Try the UFR...just google Canon and take your pick to find the driver

I think Screwtape's made a rare mistake. The IR2220i series (similar series to IR2200i but with some improvements) does not support UFRII printing as far as I know. The US drivers list (link below) does not mention any UFRII driver. So your choice is really between using PS and PCL5e.

                  1. Keep network cable lengths to a minimum.
                  2. Use a dedicated port on your switch for the copier.
                  3. Check switches/routers/cables etc. to make sure they are working properly.
                  4. If you can prioritise traffic to the copier.
                  5. Upgrade switches, routers and servers on the network to gigabit (along with the cables connecting these devices), even though the 2220i only has 100 megabit this may lead to improved speeds as hopefully the 100 megabit connection is able to be maxed out without any problems.
                  6. Replace the hdd in the copier with the best hdd you can for it (possibly a faster one, though using a faster one may have negative side effects as the drive may run hotter), format and install firmware.

These are all suggestions. They may or may not lead to performance improvements. Try at own risk. Using one of these suggestions may have an immaterial effect but collectively they could make a bit of a difference.

Try the PCL5e driver, I have heard that postscript some times runs slower than the PCL...

If the problem goes away when you try a different driver, good.
If it does not, when was the last upgrade done. Try flashing the HDD.
                        Check components, cables, switches.

The drivers, cables all are good.
How to do an upgrade ? Do you mean the version of the system software.

                          Thanks.

I think he does. Canon fixes problems with each update to the firmware. If it hasn't been updated for a while on the copier there's a fair chance that there could have been an update that may help with your problem.

"He prints daily around 4000 copies."

After reading this post through a second time I picked up on something I skipped the first time. While this copier may be experiencing a real problem with the slow printout speed, I believe the wrong machine is in use for this much printing going on, (80,000 a month), and the customer may be better served with something like an iR5000. It looks like a sales opportunity to me.
