    canon imagerunner making noise

    Hello,
I have a canon imagerunner C587OU that is not being under our service contract where I work. I am trying to figure out what is wrong with it to see if I can fix it. When I turn it on, it sounds horribly loud, and makes a flapping noise. Does anyone know what this might be? Is it possible for me to fix? Someone said it might be the rollers? If so, is this something I could fix?
    Thanks!!

      sorry

I'm sorry, I don't know what the fuser is, if you tell me how to tell, I will tell you if the fuser is rotating freely, no, as far as I know, no error code.

think you might need to call a tech - the fuser is the hot press unit - if you pull out u nit1 can you rotate? or it may well be a turret issue...

Sounds like the fuser has flat spots. These models are known for this problem. Soon you will get error code e 14. Open the front door and rotate the green knob on your left. It turns the fuser rollers, and should feel even. You'll likely find it feels very tight, then loose, as the rollers rotate. Pay for a tech, as this is not a problem a key operater would deal with. Good luck!

The main issue is that it is a Canon ImageRunner C5800. Complicated machine that works twice as hard to produce half as good color copies. Great black and white copier/printer that can print an occasional company logo (as long as you don't mind it being faded). Basically, it drives around the block four times to get home. I would not advise you to try anything on this machine except give tech you call detailed explanation on phone where/when noise is coming from/happening. Does it make noise while sitting idle and no one is using or printing to it? Does it do it when you turn it on or wake it up out of sleep? Does it do it while machine is being used? Tell these details to service tech that you call. However, do not expect tech to also be able to solve any image quality issues for labor only on this model either. Machine is very needy, eats fixing rollers, and chugs developer. Not the type of machine you want out of contract. Trust me you do not want to get your hands dirty on this one. I get paid to work on 'em and I dread ever service call on them.

              Call your tech...

The central theme from all of the techs responding here is call your service tech and have him/her take care of this issue. The very fact that you do not know what the fuser is, tells us you are not a technical person. It probably is the fuser as alluded to by the other techs responding to your question, but if it is, where are you going to get the parts and training to rebuild/replace the fuser unit?

Sound advice from all is don't attempt to repair this issue yourself. Staying at a Holiday Inn Express last night wont qualify you to make this repair...

... But If Your Gelling Like A Felon, with your Dr. Scholls and drink your V8... you might just figure out what a Fuser is.
