    Canon IR 2270 problem printing

I'm and IT guy tasked with configuring an Imagerunner 2270 to be a network printer and scanner. The Machine is hooked up, has an IP, can utilize the ping tool on the copier and can ping the gateway. Installed the URFII software and installed the printer on a Vista machine. I try to print a test page, and nothing happens. In the printer properties on the PC I am able to get the device status no problem. In the copiers service mode I see under:

    Copier > Display > ACC-STS > RAM is 512
    Copier > Display > ACC-STS > NETWARE reads 1

Everything seems to be in order, is there something else I'm missing?

press the '123' check device configuration and check wether you have pcl ,ufr or ps if none are there you dont have print facility.

with regard to scanning all devices will work as pull device using scangear and 3rd part software

if push scan is required check again to see if i-send/u-send is installed as above

Well since you already know how t get into service mode.
Ram is the capacity of the memory on the main controller circuit board.
Netware is more of a Novell app, I've never pay to much attention to Netware, but i know it deals with Novell. Definitely hit the counter check> Device configuration and check whether it reads, Multi-PDL kit E3,UFRII,PCL and for the send feature, Universal send kit B1. You must have these installed.

Also in Copier > Display > ACC-STS > send, If it reads 1: Then Send function is added.

It doesn't list the items you suggested, instead under 'Option 1' it says "3way Unit-A1". It has a network port on the back. I have configured it as DHCP and it picked up a correct IP and Host name and it was able to ping the gateway. I also configured it with a static IP same results. What other use would the network port be if it wasn't for printing. It also has a USB port...from I gather that's the combination that supports printing network and locally(no problems scanning yet...haven't gotten that far...lol). In the print log under printer it shows the two test pages I just sent and they both say 'NG' under status.
I tried setting it up directly through USB and in the print log under local print it show both those test prints as 'OK' but neither printed...

You probably have a copy boot rom and not a network boot rom.
To check this go into service mode: copier>display>version then scroll through the pages until boot is seen. there will be a version number next to it followed by a letter, either C or N.
          C for copy.......

            Yup...6.01.3_C

Is there anyway to change this. Am I able to upgrade the firmware via USB or network? I do this all the time for routers and other network hardware...

It's so deceiving...I can log into the units web interface from a notebook without issue and the damn thing says "Printer Status: Ready to print". I have always hated supporting Canon units.

Can the firmware be updated via the USB interface? If not, how does one update it?

The boot rom needs to be changed on the main controller. I think this comes in the multi PDL kit? can't remember, haven't seen one in a long time. We had a workshop engineer who would set machines up prior to install so didn't see many!

I'm assuming this machine has not printer successfully before now.

You have to buy an N type boot ROM; it's an option.

You can still use Network ScanGear to pull scan into an application such as Acrobat (not Reader) or any other application that can use a TWAIN scanner. That's one reason why the RJ45 jack is there. The other would be for firmware updates and some configuration.

To make this unit print, you'll need an N type boot ROM, as well as the correct firmware to flash the machine to "printer" type versions.

The firmware is only available to authorized Canon dealers. Distributing it to anyone else has severe, unspeakable consequences.

Your best bet would be to get an authorized dealer to get you a quote on getting you "hooked up".

Newer models can be upgraded with USB. You need service support tool and firmware in order to flash the machine. Your bootrom should be a P type.
