Your interrupt switch in the control panel maybe not working (corroded). You can try to apply some WD40 into the switch and press it for awhile.

      interrupt

Canon imageRUNNER models have the ability to interrupt print jobs to perform copy jobs. In order to interrupt a print job to perform a copy job, you must first set the Printing Priority so that copy jobs have priority over print jobs.
      1. Hit the Additional Functions button.
      2. Press Common Settings.
      3. Select Printing Priority.
      4. Set the priority (1, 2, or 3) for each function (Copy, Printer, Mailbox, and Other
an interrupt job musty be done directly from the glass

Using the interrupt function on most newer Canons it will not stop the current job, you need to watch the screen and it will say ready for interrupt job.

When it says ready to perform start your interrupt job. Pay attention to when it is done as it will continue with the other job pretty soon after the interrupt job is completed
