    Canon iR C2880 & PowerMac g5 running OS 10.5.8

    Hi,

I have no idea how to connect to a network printer, but at my place of employment I am trying to get my PowerMac g5 to print.

I am connected to a network via ethernet (the Windows machine right next to me is connected the same way and prints just fine) and have the printer IPI address so I am trying to use that to find the printer.

I installed a driver for iR C2880, and when select it in the preferences, my Mac seems to find the printer. However, when I try to print anything, nothing shows up in the print que, and the screen ON the Canon printer says ERROR.

I have searched far and wide on forums, canon support, apple support (online and phone - they couldn't figure out why it wasn't working), and have found nothing. Please help!

What kind of error? Try pressing the System Monitor button on the screen (lower, right) when this happens. It may give you more details and point you in the right direction. It could be something as simple as a paper size mismatch (it probably isn't, but it could be).
But I'm trying, Ringo. I'm trying real hard... to be the Shepherd.

What driver are you using and what printer kit is installed into the machine.

Jules - it just says "PDL IMG Invalid Data" - when I show more options and select printer, all it says is "Error"

I would love to be able to help you out, but my Mac knowledge stopped at v7.5 many moons ago, and that printing environment was all in the Mac world with Mac peripherals. I feel your frustration with this issue. Mac's tout how they are the superior machine,,, but they don't always play well with others.

This is not a copier issue,,, but a Mac issue, as you stated the Winbox was happily printing to the device. I believe your best bet for a resolution would be found in a mac user group forum,, or a visit to an Apple showroom where all the "Experts" are hanging out.

Good luck, I wish you well on your quest...

You need to find what kind of printer driver that is being used. If you can't find out from the machine check that other computer in the printer and faxes. The driver should have a name. The driver that usually comes standard with this printer is the UFRII driver. Try the UFRII v1.70 Printer Driver for Macintosh OSX 10.5. I think your using the CanonPPD v2.75.
There is a later driver but it not posted at the Canon usa.

Mac CUPS UFRII v2.00 Printer Driver for Macintosh OSX Supports Mac OS X v10.4.9 to v10.6.0 This driver adds support Mac Os X v10.6.0 (Snow Leopard).

This is not posted yet at canon usa.

Here is the link for it from the Canon USA Site, I have installed this driver on all the newer machines and it works just fine.

Nice going wingnut. What's also strange is that, they had nothing posted for the C2880 and I notice that you was searching under the iR5180.

                    Its the same driver however.

Yea, they have been doing weird things on the public site lately, you just have to download the file and see what drivers are in the file.

Hmm, ok I have installed the CanonPPD_v2.80.zip driver, and now the print manager says sending job 100%, but after a few minutes nothing ever prints and I get a pop up window that says: Canon PS Printer Driver, Printer not responding. Check the printer power connection, and then try sending printing job again. The print que is then paused, and if I click resume, it says: Operation could not be completed. client-error-not-possible.

But the printer is on and I can print from any other computer in the office.

When I add the printer should I use LPD or IPP?
Should I use the printer's IP address or Gateway address?
There are 2 drivers to select from: iR C5180 or iR C5180 PS (SP)?

                        Thank you for helping me

Open the Print Center, hold down the 'ALT' button, and click Add Printer. (This should open the advanced printer properties).
This will allow you to manually change the port settings and browse to the PPD. If you are using LPR (which byte counting will hang up print jobs) try switching to raw port 9100. To change the port from LPR to socket:

                          socket://192.168.0.xxx:9100.(use your ip address though)

The other thing you can try is uninstalling PS on the mac and reinstalling it. All printers use the same PS driver just the PPD is model specific. If you did the PS install on the Canon disc and say you had PS ver 2.0 on your mac and just installed PS ver 1.5 over it, it will screw up every printer on the Mac. Most of the time you just need to copy the PPD off the disc into the library and not install PS unless you know you are installing a newer version of PS.

Edit: I just saw you got it fix'd. Ignore my senseless ramblings

I think I misunderstood this - I just now installed UFRII_v2.00_MacOSX.zip and added the printer and it works (when selecting the iR C5180 driver from the list). THANKS SO MUCH!!!

I guess you have a UFRII printer kit. Glad to hear your problem was solved.
