    IR-2200 0+9

I have an IR-2200 copier that I bought used. I wanted networked printing, so I asked the place if they had an available unit, they had a NIC and Boot Rom pulled from an old system, they said just plug it into the system. I installed the NIC and Boot Rom, turned on the machine and it was a blank display. When I reinstalled the original Boot Rom the display returned and the copier worked as before (except it recognized the NIC, and the computer could see it but it did not have the IR-2200 software, IR-2200N to run as a network printer, I learned on this forum). I left the back open (which also I noticed one of the screws sheered off (is that normal)?). I called to a copy repair place in town, they said to reprogram it to IR-2200N it would be $225.00 and in the meantime they told me to put in the Boot Rom from the old system and hold down 0 + 9 on restart to check everything. Everything went blank, but it clicks every couple of minutes. I waited for a few hours, and the clicking went away. I put in the old Boot Rom and now the copier won't start at all. What the hell did he have me do?

I'm livid, and I'm pretty concerned I just ruined the copier or he was trying to hold me for ransom. Can I download something to put it back, I don't care about printing at this point I really want my fax and copier functions back? Should I go to another copier place, how much will it be to repair? Not sure what should I do next, can anybody help? Anything to help would be appreciated!

try holding down the 1 and 9 buttons. that will put the machine in check disc mode. you should see a small box flashing in the upper left corner. it will drop to the bottem. then another one will appear. this will continue untill the display fills up. then it will say download mode. at this point, turn mach off then on. hopefully it will come up ok. make sure you have the boot rom with the c in the machine. you may want to clean the boot rom contacts with a pencil erasor.
you do need new system software installed to use the print functions.

glad i could help. upgrading the sys software should take 1/2 hour or so . there is a special cable and software to load the software.

He'll need a N Boot-ROM installed to be able to upgrade the software.

Also if your computer has a parallel port a standard IEEE-1284 bi-centronic (aka bi-directional) parallel cable will do. No need for the special canon cable unless you want to hook up to a USB port on your computer rather than a parallel port.

Normally if you insert a NIC and N Boot-Rom you should get an error message. If you didn't get this, with the symptoms you described then probably something was wrong with the Boot-Rom.

If you still wish to network your copier you should buy a N Boot-Rom.

A networked IR2200 can also do pull scanning using the freely available Canon Network ScanGear Tool (use v2.21 not the Colour tool). Instructions for using it are available in a pdf included in the download.
