Canon Imagepass H1 #853 Print Error

    Hello Everyone

I'm a little stumped at this one. I have a customer with a Canon IR C5180 with a Canon ImagePass H1 attached. This copier was attached to a network previous before it was moved here. The first problem we had was we couldn't even get into the H1 setup through the printer tab but we upgraded the H1 firmware which resolved that issue. We can see the copier on the network and we tried every H1 print driver available from Canon but all we get when we print is a flashing green status light on copier for a few seconds and nothing else. When the details of the print job are checked it has a #853 print error. Here is what has me stumped.I can't even access any reports generated from the H1(ie. configuration page, font pages etc.) without getting the same error. I reseating the H1 memory and it seems to scroll up properly when viewed on the print tab H1 status screen. We've been messing with this way too long and all we have is a frustrated customer who can't do a simple print job.Hopefully someone has some quick answers. Thanks in advance....

You state the copier was on a network before it got to where it presently is installed. Was the H1 attached to it at this previous site as well?

Make the following selections in the host machine's service mode, :COPIER>OPTION>INTFACE>IMG-CONT and set it to ->3.

(This way, the appropriate IP address will automatically be setup for communication between the machine and its host machine.)

      I agree with MrFixit.

The #853 code is what comes up when you send a print job to an iR when it doesn't have the appropriate print processor installed.

        Tried and Failed

        Hi Guys

Checked as you suggested. IMG-CONT is set to 3. I tried changing the value and re-entering it but it didn't change things. Did an MMI clear and flashed H1 again. No changes. Also tried new cables. HELP.....

Any chance that you can do a P-Print, and scan and post the first page of it? (On another machine, of course..)?

I don't remember if this machine uses a "C" or "N" type boot ROMs; I know that a lot of the later models use only a "C" type, I just don't know where the change cut in at.

If there truly is an "N" type boot ROM in it, I would thinks that's the issue.

            BootRom Version

            Ken

The version of bootrom is 11.02 C if that helps.

            Other values

            DC-CON 01.30
            R-CON 01.02

I have a P-Print that i can post if you think that can help. Whats irritating is this came from an office that had it connected through the H1 without an issue. If anything it might have been unplugged for a period of time before it got here. Are there any machine values that i should double-check that might have been set back to defaults? Thanks for all your help.

What version of System software does your H1 have? If it's 1.1 or higher, the version of your boot ROM is too low. Based on the versions you mentioned in your post, I would very highly recommend flashing all the firmware in the 5180 to current versions.

Also, is the cable between the copier and RIP a crossover? A standard cable won't work.

                Resolution

Just wanted to close this post with the final resolution to this problem in case anybody else encounters it. What i found was although we updated firmware on both the H1 Print Server and the Canon IR C5180 copier the problem still continued. Unannounced to me was a newer version of firmware from Canon on the copier. I updated the machine to that firmware which took care of the memory issue i had.

On a side note one thing i thought was strange is the new firmware defaults port 9100 to off. Thanks for everyones help. Much Appreciated....

Thanks, MrFixit. I kinda miss it, too, but I couldn't claim originality for that one. Tmaged has it on this site (Thanks, Tmaged!). I liked it, so I went and found it on the Web.

I found my new one by doing a few searches for funny avatars.

I haven't named him just yet.
