Canon IC MF7480 with a "waiting" message

    Hello everyone...

I am working on a Canon IC MF7480 networked w/ a wireless router, fax not used.
Get a call last Thursday to come look at the machine at the customers office, get there and turn it on, I see a Canon screen for a sec. then a screen that says "waiting" and it just sits there. Now to a Ricoh guy (ME) this means a HDD has failed. So me being more brave and than smart I start tearing into the machine to find a HDD. LOL it must be hiding cause I can't find it. So I tried turning it off and on many times hoping the HDD would spin up just one time, always the same message "waiting". I don't have the correct Intravia (have #12 on the puter) but tried to figure out how to start in "service mode". So I tried holding "2" and "8" down while turning the power switch back on...bingo! It boots up and everything works, copies just fine (network stuff is at a different location so couldn't try that) and so I thought I had it ready to go. Shut it off and turn it back on normally..."waiting" again. Hold 2 & 8 and she starts back up again. I was able to get to the service mode also, but didn't see anything there that might help me.

I really need some help with this one...this is a good customer for us with all their other printers and copiers and they went and bought this thing from CDW with a 3rd party warranty on it...lol guess who the third party called to work on it, us.
Silly thing only has 8K copies on it.

I'd appreciate any help you guys could get me on this.

    Thanks
    Jeff D.

Really...no ideas on this one at all.
A "waiting" message on Canons has never been seen before?
I'm getting ready to call the customer and let them know that
I'll be stopping by tomorrow, but I wish I had more info for them.

Any ideas you my have would be appreciated!

    Thanks
    Jeff D.

      I know how you feel,
some times the tough problems might get overlooked
      BUT
1st thing remove or turn off the wireless router
and make the copier work as a stand alone without any network
It might just be hanging up on the network connect.

the 2&8 in Svc mode could bypass that step.
well thats where i would start

The customer removed this unit from a remote location and had the
copier at their office for me to look at. The wireless equip. was also
left at the job site, so there shouldn't be a network issue.

I am starting the machine as a basic copier no network or fax connections.

The pressing 2 & 8 while powering up kind of threw me as it starts
like everything is fine. Copying is normal and CQ is good. The fuser
is getting hot (do Canon's get HOT?) and fixing the toner to the paper.

Again any ideas would help me a bunch.
I have to stop by their office tomorrow and play with it some more.

I'm an independent contractor and hate to not fix something.
Not sure at this point if I will get paid a dime for my 3+ hours of time.
This is the first machine in 7-8 years I'm totally stumped on.
        Seems others are also.

        Anybody else...Ideas ? Anyone?

Is there a Canon God in the house????

        LOL......Jeff / Foo

Do you have any Svc manuals, parts, circuit diagrams for this model?
That's where You really need to be to start the discovery process.
Canon's like most other copiers will NOT start up if there is a error
          somewhere.
The #2+8 may bypass this for now
Did you get into the svc error log's?
          Dates, times, customer input?
          Reset the defaults?

The info you have here is too general.
If the copier works after the bypass then at least the engine MAY be ok!

BUT again for a copied tech, you should already know what the steps are
after a simple solution is not found, and thats where the details can help.

Dont feel alone in this, we all have been there
          I have a mother of a problem on a canon C1
for over 2 weeks and CBS is stumped.

There are many ways to get the svc manuals/tech info on what you need
