    iR3570 Losing IP Address

    Hi,

We have an iR3570 that periodically keeps losing its IP address.

It keeps going back to 0.0.0.0. After being re-input, it stays for some period of time.

I don't know how often this happens; I was just asked to help out a tech.

It sounds like the battery on the DC controller is bad from what I've read here, (thanks to all who contributed!) but the 3570 model isn't really that old - the service manual says it should last for 7 years.

I was also told that this customer has quite a few of this model with us, and this is one of ten machines across the country that are doing this.

Has anyone else seen the problem with a machine that is this relatively new? Or maybe it was sumpthin' else?

    Thanks!

      Batt very east to test,
With the PWR ON , use a good meter, clip on the batt +& -
      ck the dc voltage,
keep the clip on and shut off the machine.

Watch the voltage drop with PWR off ,
The voltage will drop a little and should stay close to the voltage on the Batt
Usually 3.5vdc or 5vdc for memory circuit.
This will show "IF" the battery backup circuit is "charging"

Lithium Battery sometimes do NOT have a "charging" circuit and just go dead
very FAST, just a bad battery ,OR just dont think about that going bad!
The 5 year "circuit life" of a Lith batt is usually good.

But if the unit is left unplugged long enough that will be one of the first things to replace.
A lot of times when copiers are left in storage this will happen almost every time.

        Thanks for the replies!

By "MFC", I'm assuming you mean the "Main Controller" - that's where the IP address lives.

I'm still a bit puzzled as to why we have battery issues with iR3570s, though. It's less than 6 years old (the "rev. 0" date of the manual is September 2004). I can understand it with older boxes, like the iR105, 7200, 5000, and so on. I'm just wondering if maybe Canon didn't build some machines with batteries that weren't exactly "fresh".

        Thanks again.

Correct the main controller is where the battery is at.
The Dc controller maintains, motors, lasers, clutches.
