    Word Remembers Print settings

Any ideas on this wierd one.

Started to get some customers (and my own PC!) remembering print settings and chosen printer in Word (i.e. Not default set up) even if word is re-started. All other applications ok, just word

I have loaded dummy HP drivers and it still happens so definitely a Word fault.

Funny thing is you can reset it if you clear internet history and delete 'last used documents' in the start menu. But once you have accessed a few web sites then word will always open up from then on with whatever printer or settings you used on the last Word job.

It is as if IE has made a link to Word and made Word pick up a history...if you see what i mean.

Once you clear out web / document history then word opens up with the defaults it is set to in the printers folder.

    Over to the crew!

If you have the Microsoft office CD try re installing it.

Its obvious that Mircosoft office is the issue.

          Word has been re-installed....no luck.

I was wondering if it was to do with an update. Maybe to achieve a link between Internet Explorer and Word for some sort of feature.

Not really our responsibility but you know customers....!!!!!

Be nice to know where the history is coming from though

I have had this happen with Adobe and Excel as well. Mostly with documents that are generated from another user then emailed or shared. If you use the quick print it remembers the original print settings. The only way that I have found around this so far is to use the File, Print function. Seems to work okay then.

            Good luck.

I know what you mean about ..technically this is not your problem but, it is!!

Definitely sounds like a Microsoft issue. I'd start by going to the Microsoft update site and download and install any updates for your version of Office or word. Wouldn't hurt to check for windows updates while you're there.

I usually go to the Microsoft support site and search their knowledge base.
But this article about how word creates temp files was all I could find.

You could try doing a "search all files and folders" for *wr*.tmp, and deleting all the word temp files. Then go to c:\windows\system32\spool\PRINTERS. If everything is working correctly there should not be any files in that folder, if there are any delete them. You will have to enable "view hidden files" to see them if they are any, and they should be .sho files.

But it sounds like the fix will have to come from MS. Good luck!
