Canon LBP5000 Laser Registration error. Does anyone know of a fault with this printer (identical engine to the HP1600) which causes colours to misregister horizontally? On a colour test print the black image prints fine, but the three colour images print in the wrong place, separately offset between about 1mm and 5 mm to the right of the black one. The effect is like three horizontally displaced colour echoes of the original image.
I note that there's a registration/density sensor behind the ETB belt, but can't see how it works, whether it can be cleaned, or whether it's likely to need replacing.
I have a handbook for the HP1600 but it's pretty short on info about the unit. I've changed cartridges, to no avail, and recalibrated the printer many times. I've also updated the driver. This looks like a electromechanical problem, and has gradually got worse over a period of months, suggesting the need to remove toner dust from somewhere, but I can't be sure.
Any info gratefully received.
