    iRC2880 Not booting up

    Hi Guys
Got a corker here, that is really giving me a Massive headache

1st of all this device has a HDD encryption kit & a HDD erase kit

What happen 1st it came up with E602-2000, so fitted a new SRAM PCB
That cured that one but next it was E744-1001, grrrrrr
So next i replaced the boot room and upgraded the firmware

Then next was E602-002, so replaced the hard drive, (By now i was Banging my head against the wall)
So replaced the hard drive and reloaded again the firmware.

Now this is the what giving me the headache..

The files copy across from SST to the device then get the message to reboot
When i reboot, the HDD erase kit kicks in saying the hard drive is being erased please wait, and that it.. it hangs there..

    SO....
the hdd has the files, but the devices can't unpack them, and the hdd erase kits just sits there

How about removing the 2 kits till you get your hard drive problem resolved?
I have never installed either of these,,, are they licenses, or are they hardware,
    or hardware and licenses?

the encryption kit should be a board that is connected to the HDD. Not sure about the erase kit, but I know you have to reload firmware when installing the HDD erase kit and that might be the issue. You might have the wrong firmware with that HDD erase kit being installed. I only have the ones for the 3245 series and not the 2880 series.

The encryption kit is deff a board that as you said plugs in bewteen the HDD and the machine (On what i call the network PCB)
The erase kit is a license. so thats on the machine and i not 100% sure if that can be removed
But the problem is the customer has lost ALL the licenses for everything on that machine (Universal I-Send, PS, Direct print, HDD erase, the lot) so it's not a case i can completely flatten it back to factory settings, and rebuild it

Charm, ya right on the firmware and the erase kit, i have had HDD go down on a kit before, and a full system reload, and away it goes again, But this one...

I'm loading v89.01, Same as the other 3 machines the customer have
I have tried moving another HDD from a working machine into the faulty one, but all i get is E602-0002, (and the other way round as well...

Anyone got a skip i can borrow lol

the customer should have all those licenses saved in a folder on his PC or MAC after they were installed ?????
replacing HDD will not lose the licenses/ they are also stored on the main controller.

ONCE THE SECURITY KIT IS INSTALLED ON A DEVICE, IT CANNOT BE UNINSTALLED AND TRANSFERRED TO ANOTHER MACHINE.

Let me start by saying I don't have any experience with these kits, but this is what I have found:

            E602-2000
Authentication error of the copier and the encryption
            board On startup
Check the connection between the encryption board
and HDD, and between the encryption board and the
            main controller.
In case the connection is correct, try to clear the
encryption key in the service mode.
At the service mode level 2; COPIER>FUNCTION>CLEAR>KEY-CLR

what a head scratcher. If you had the licenses to reinstall them I would tell you go and uninstall them and then reinstall them later (this can be done) but I doubt your customer would have the key numbers. More than likely the installing company has that information somewhere and without support from Canon you are not going to get them either. Just for the heck of it try swapping the HDD and RAM from a working machine into this one. That 2000 error code points to the RAM.

Doesn't the encryption board marry the hard drive to the serial number, as well as the main controller? So swapping drives will not go well I think....

                  F I X E D I T...
And GLAD of it lol Talk about a banging my head
                  RIGHT here we go
I did try swapping the HDD and encrytpion kit over but got E602-0002, And tried again with just the HDD and the same E602-0002 (Well said mrfixit, ya right on the above)
I next tried by-passing the kit, (Connected the HDD to the lanbar-c PBC (What i would scall the network card) but again the Erase Kit kicked in again and nothing else) grrrrrrrr
I left the machine on, and went back to my car to make a few calls.
On my return (good 30mins later), the device was unpacking all the firmware that was sent to it, days ago
Leaving it, the device carried on,...DCON..RCON.... Then reboot
Holding my breath, i rebooted, and yes the erase in kicked in, and 30secs later, the machine continued to power up
                  YES.....It worked
SO back on with the encryption kit, E602-0002, so a format, and a full firmware again.. And AGAIN the device hung at the erase kit message
Leaving it this time, 45mins pasted, and the rest of the firmware installed carried on, and asked for reboot
Rebooted, and BINGO, it powered on as normal, with everything as it should be, no need to even do the network settings

So the only thing i can work out, is this..
The New SRAM Pcb, needed to build the fresh HDD table, and erased the whole 80gig HDD
SO all i needed to do was wait after all that :-)
                  Who cares .... it's working

Sweet news. Have to remember with those kits that you have to wait.
                      Thanks for posting the solution
