    "replace black drum unit"

    Hey Guys,
The other day I replaced a set of drums on an IRC2880 copier. A couple days later, the customer called back and said the machine would intermittently say "REPLACE BLACK DRUM UNIT" and she would open and shut the front door and it would reset and copy for a while and then same message. I went back and made sure counters had reset (which they had) and pulled drum and cleaned all connections. Today, a week later, same trouble. I went and installed a new Black drum unit (0456B003AA or BA). Is there something I'm missing or did I just get a bad drum unit?
    Thanks

It could be a bad drum unit, but the latest firmware update has a fix for this.Other things to check are the hv connections to the ITB assembly. Prior to the firmware release, I have known a new ITB assembly to fix this.

    Details:
During the life of the ITB Unit, resistance against parts around the Primary Transfer Roller causes a decrease in the primary current at the drum detection sequence. This symptom may occur more frequently in a low temperature, low humidity environment.

To address this symptom in the field, we recommend performing the following:

    Procedure:
    1. Clean the transfer H.V. PCB (HV2) Contacts.
    2. Clean the Process Unit contacts to the main frame.
    3. Upgrade the DCON to v49.01

        Thanks avalon

        Avalon,
Thanks for the PLEASANT help...the way it should be on here, as opposed to the 11x17 post who sounds like he needs an enema or something. If you're that tired of answering questions, stay off the forums.
        Thanks again AVALON

I have also heard replacing the ITB assembly has resolved this somewhat issue. Part number FM2-5522-030.

Avalon might have given you PLEASANT help but it isn't worth a shit. Go ahead and upgrade the DCON to 49.01 like he says and maybe replace another drum and screw around and replace the itb and then maybe you'll take my advice and fix the damn thing!!

Let us know what fixes it if you are man enough!

Just take a quick check/ remove all dev. units & drum units/look inside to see if the small white coupling for black unit is damaged/missing/or has popped off/Drum will not turn without it and display "insert drum"

****if not replace that ITB unit
, like Screwtape said> don't fool around>replace that ITB unit> i will bet it may have a cracked conductive bushing/
I have replaced 6 to fix that issue !!!!!!!!!!!!

I had this exact problem the other day and it turned out to be the HVT PCB that needed replacing. I replaced this part and the machine worked straight away. Sometimes re-initialising the drum can help temporarely resolve the issue - Service mode Level 2 COPIER -FUNCTION-INSTALL-INIT K. ...........HVT1 Part number - FM2-5548-000. Hope this helps.

I had this same problem on 2 iR3380 on the same site (at different times)
The 2 machines was running v89.01 with v41.01 dcom
i just updating the dcom to v61.01
Rebooted the device and beep beep beep beep Error E0067
I replaced the ITB, and it fixed it
I 'm still confused why updateing only the dcom too the ITB out
