Canon5185. Have set up networked printer. Now having the problem that after some period of unuse (hour or two), printer sometimes goes off-line. It is still on, can copy, but in order to print to it, have to login via ip add, configure, and then reboot.

Any ideas how I can have this stay on all the time? Is this a static vs. dynamic ip issue?

We had simular issues with other machines. In our case it was a problem between the Canon NIC and a GB Switch (seems a comon issue, especially with GB Ciscos). Our solution has been to put a cheap hub/switch between the printer and the network.

Sounds like you have DHCP enable. Disable DHCP then set up using a static IP address.
