In this case, replacing the DC-Controller resolved the issue.

    imageRUNNER C2280 / C3380 / C2880i / C3380i DC-Controller FM2-8263-000
    imageRUNNER C2550 / C3080 / C3480 / C3080i / C3480i DC-Controller FM2-9486-000

        E732
        Reader communication error

        0001 DDI-S communication error
Check on connection between the reader controller
PCB and the main controller PCB, Check on the reader
        power supply

E732-0001 is a communcation error on the Main Controller
        (Main PCB + Sub PCB's)

Sometimes happens when it coming out of Sleep (Happen sometimes 1st thing in the morning normally)

One thing you can try is to turn off sleep mode in service mmode

        Copier>Options>User> Sleep 1 = On = Sleep / 0 = Off = No Sleep > OK

It means you should call a tech to come out and look at your machine.

Follow this, But once in service mode DO NOT DO ANYTHING ELSE (Or you could make your machine in-op)

Press the yellow reset a couple of times...
                Press {*), 2+8 (Together), {*)
Tap Copier, Then Option, Then User
Under there you will see "SLEEP", Tap it
Press the "0", then OK (on the display)
Then press reset until your back to the normal screen

BUT this may not fix the problem, there may be an underling issue apart from this

Best advice is to place a service call to who supllied you with your deivce
Sounds like it's a main controller issue you have
If it keep flagging up errors it best to get someone in to look at it instead of asking for help on here
We can only advise, but without looking at the device 1 on 1 we can only help so far
