Why? What's the issue? Also in other posts you say you have the 3300i which uses different firmware to the 3300.

Silly question are you using the new type hard drive from canon. If so it needs a special firmware in the SST.
also, the standard ip mode address you put in is wrong, off the top of my head cant remember as laptop is at work, 172.168.1. etc, i would drop down a sst the 22/3300 can be a little tempo with the new software. I will check it tomorrow 4 u, if you have not sorted it.

          1. Still need to determine if you have a iR3300 or iR3300i as they do take different firmware
          2. The host machine IP address is 172.16.1.100 - your laptop needs to be 172.16.1.nnn (nnn is any number other than 100), and the subnet is 255.255.255.0
          3. Connection from laptop to host needs to be a x-over cable or a hub/switch.
          4. Hard drive model is important (it must be a supported type) but does not have to be from Canon (newer models require Canon HDD)
          5. I use SST 23e and have not encountered issues with either the 3300 or 3300i (but your milage may vary)

          6. May be time to call in a trained Canon tech as things can go real bad in a hurry when you start messing with firmware.

147=Connect Error & a 145=Communication Error/ make sure u have only one version on the SST on your Laptop

Have u ever use SST or done a firmware update ????

              Try using v4.11
Also if your putting a newer type HDD from canon, the HD format file has change to v16.
By what your saying is that, you tried to format first which is correct if your putting in a new HDD.
If you look at v45.01 firmware, the HD format data file is v13, it does not provide or include the new HD data file v16.

can only format in safe mode

                1) Start up the PC.
                2) Check the network settings of the PC.
2-1) Start the command prompt, and type in "IPCONFIG," and press the Return key.

2-2) Check to be sure that the network settings appearing on the screen are as follows; if not, change the PC network settings:

                IP address: 172.16.1.160
                Subnet mask: 255.255.255.0
                Default gateway: any

Do not use the following IP addresses:
                - 172.16.1.0
                - 172.16.1.100
                - 172.16.1.255
Connect the PC to the machine with a cross cable.

Set the machine to the appropriate mode:

                - Normal Mode

Turn on the main power switch while holding down the keys 1 and 7.
When the machine has started, make the following selections in service mode:
COPIER > FUNCTION > SYSTEM > DOWNLOAD; then, click [OK].

                - Safe Mode

Turn on the main power switch while holding down the keys 2 and 8. In response, the machine will start up in safe mode.

From memory, I don't believe the 3300 supports Fixed IP mode, in the mode used for formatting the hdd. I think the 3300i might.

you are right/ After replacing the hard drive on an imageRUNNER 3300, you must use a parallel cable to flash because there is no IP set in the machine since the machine will not boot up.

I don't think poster knows what model they have !!!!

The 3300 requires a parallel cable. If your laptop does not have one then you need the USB to parallel cable from Canon. One from your local computer store will not function correctly so do not waste your money on it.

For me, I categorize the the boot ROM size into 2 group.
A: Boot ROM memory size 2MB.(xx70,2220i,..)
                        B: Boot ROM memory size 1MB (7200,2200,2200i,..)

Type A can format HDD in safe mode through network.
                        Type B cannot.
