Help needed: System menu on Canon IR 1024i for a password reset

    Hello everyone!

As the title says, I'm having problems with the Canon IR 1024i photocopier / printer. The problem is: I intended to set it up so, that every employee would have his own access code, but... I made a mistake. I turned on the option to use "User IDs" before I had any IDs set up. Now every time I turn the printer on, it requests a User ID and a password, and it won't let me access the menus without one. Remote control from the computer also requires the same login information.

I googled about resetting the printer to factory settings, but all the advice I got, assumed I could access the menu, usually through service mode. However, trying with the *28* code, the printer simply responds with a double-beep error as soon as I press the (*). Am I doing something wrong here?

The only keys which don't produce the double beep error seem to be "ID", the number pad keys, "OK" and "//". Is there another way to access the service mode or bypass the User ID prompt?
Or possibly a way to do a factory reset without using this mode?

I would appreciate any advice anyone can give, since I'm quite completely stumped.

I think u need to press main menu button then *28* on this model
If changing a setting in service mode, turn OFF/ON the main power
    switch.

Think u can turn off in system settings/manage user id

To add to the discussion, the 2 and 8 are not pressed together at same time, they are sequentially pressed.

In order to clear administrator or dept ID and password, an ALL CLEAR will have to be performed. Be aware that if the customer uses the address book, it will need to be backed up before performing the ALL CLEAR.

Enter Service mode by pressing * 2 8 * in sequence, use the contrast arrow keys to get to CLEAR, press OK, then use the arrow keys again until ALL is found, then press the OK key. The machine will reboot itself and come to ready.

Thank you very much for your help, I managed to reset it now.

The problem was that I pressed 2 and 8 at the same time when I should have typed them in one after another.

Thanks again, this advice saved me from looking very silly before the whole office

Is there a space between 2 and 8 and *. How to " use the contrast arrow keys to get to CLEAR"

                  Selecting Service Mode

                  Press the Additional functions key,

                  then the 2 key,

                  then the 8 key,

                  then the Additional functions key.

You are now in service mode!
