    1. Remove back cover
    2. locate hard drive
    3. read sticker on hard drive
    4. ????????????
    5. PROFIT!!!

          imageRUNNER 5000 / 5000i / 6000 / 6000i:

They have an internal 5.1 GB hard drive, on older units, or a 10 GB hard drive, on newer units, that is shared for copy and print functions. The hard drive can hold approximately 4,000 pages, in the 5.1 GB hard drive, or approximately 7,700 pages, in the 10 GB hard drive, for copying and printing functionality.

yea but he won't know which drive he has unless he cracks the case.

I am not certain, but I think I have seen the HDD model number listed on a p-print, worth a try... on the first page or two..
