    format hard drive

    Hello all
    I was wondering if anyone could help me out and tell me how to format the hard drive on a Canon IR 2200? Can you do this from the copier itself. I am a Sharp Tech and we just got this one in on trade and was wondering how to do this. Can you do it from the copier itself like on the Sharps? If so please tell me the steps. THANKS!!!

    To my knowledge, as best as I can remember, you need the Canon Service Support Tool with the 2200 software loaded on your laptop. You connect to the machine and run the tool. You will see the hard drive format option on there.

      IR C3220 HDD Format

      A different model, but it might work.
      Sorry, the link isn't working; do a search, you should be able to find it.

        Not sure why you want to format hard drive ..... do you have problems or an error code when you turn on the copier? Anyway .....you will need the SST and the firmware for that model. The firmware is model specific. If you format the drive you must reload the firmware or the copier will not function at all

          Blaze is correct - you need the SST to format the drive.

          With a lot of the newer models (like the 70 series) it's built into service mode.

          You could also remove the drive and reformat either with an IDE-to-USB cable, or mount the drive in a PC that will accept 2.5" drives.

            Thanks for the replies guys. On Sharp machines it is in service mode where you can format the HDD and you don't have to reload the firmware as it reloads the HDD automatically. I was hoping that this copier would be as easy...no such luck it sounds like. THANKS again.

              there is no reason to format HDD , unless u are having an issue or error code, or replacing with a new HD, if u want to wipe clean HDD, and re install firmware that is another story.

              Note: u need the Canon SST Tool w/ the 2200 firmware in it, to attempt any formatting or updating/re-loading of firmware

                I'm guessing you want to do this because of the recent news stories about copier HDD's?

                I didn't think this went as far back as the 2200's but there is a service mode for formatting the HDD. It just formats the drive, it doesn't wipe it clean. Here it is:

                Copier-> Function-> System-> HD-Clear.
                Before you do the clear you have to select which partition you want to format with "CHK-TYPE"
                1= Image Storage Area
                2= General File Storage Area
                3= PDL File Storage Area
                4= Firmware Storage Area

                Enter 1 in CHK-TYPE and press OK.
                Then press HD-Clear and press OK.
                Enter 2 in CHK-TYPE and press OK.
                Then press HD-Clear and press OK.

                Enter 3 in CHK-TYPE and press OK.
                Then press HD-Clear and press OK.

                Even though you can enter 0 or 4 in CHK-TYPE and hit OK in HD-Clear the operation will be invalid.

                Again, this is just a simple format, it does not wipe the drive clean.

                  I would not play around with CHK-TYPE , Unless u are having an issue/error on 2200 or any machine that show no symptoms of failure, without having SST & Firmware on my Laptop/

                  I have seen techs run CHK-TYP and then cause an issue on a working printer, cause it to go down, & and don't have their laptop to re-flash.
