Could be RAM, boot rom and even the MN-CON causing the issue you are describing. As far as the HDD going bad it usually causes the unit to reboot or completely turn off when going bad. I have seen this about dozen times or more.
Accidents don't just happen. They must be carelessly planned.

      Process of elimination.

This kind of issue requires checking out a couple of components.

Hopfully it doesn't cost you much.

      Hopefully you can swap.

did u try to unplug HDD & see what happens ??

did u check fuser pcb. Fuses/ so fuser heats up-hear rotation-/ remove right side cover over Manual Feed to inspect ITB BELT and see if color patches are being laid down during rotation.

What is proper jumper setting for the HDD right now it is at far right position. This came from a leasing co. and Canon USA had to ship this to me prepaid I am wondering if a tech messed with this machine because he was told to by higher ups. Xerox has done this kind of stuff before in the past.

don't mess with those dip positions

that means your power supply is good/

when u re-plug HDD in & power up if u don't see the 602 pop up in the upper left corner of the dark screen , turn that contrast button to light ,look in corner for code.

first cheap way= i would first replace Fuse pcb

I get no code at all when HDD is reconnected. Where is the fuse PCB located? I don't have the SM on this unit we do have the C3200 though.

To add on - Power up printer- be careful while doing checks
Remember> To check the fuses use frame ground for your volt meter negative lead and measure both sides of the fuses for your vdc
                        checks

NOTE: During normal servicing of the machine>>> it is important to turn the main power switch off prior to unplugging connectors, failure to do so can result in damaging circuits and degrading or blowing fuses on the fuse pcb.

I don't see anywhere in here that states firmware has been done. Format the HDD and install newest firmware. Sounds like machine fires up...if it is print capable launch the RUI to see if it comes to ready or if any issue.

stick a hdd loaded with firmware in it and see what happens. Machine is starting to boot obviously. Start with the simple stuff.
