    Canon 2200/2800/3300 Hard Drives

Can anyone detail the EXACT procedure for formatting/partitioning and installing a 3rd party HDD such as Western Digital or Toshiba for use in a
    Canon 2200/2800/3300?
Have been told must use older version of the SST rather than current due
to the newer SST not allowing the use of any non-Canon HDD.

    Thanks

You can use newer SST .You need to edit the HDIFT file to use 3rd party HDD.

He has posted that link on seceral treads ?? If I remember correctly, with the earlier sst you had to format the new hdd using IR XXX or XXXX which was right down at the bottom of the tool .. that is no longer available on the newer tool (3.33) but hd formatt all seams to work better .. you may need to format with the old tool (3.11) XXX and then use the new tool to flash .. There does not seem to be a bullet proof sequence that guarantees success ...

Not much of a work around but

Pull the bad HD and see what it is then buy the same drive from someplace other than Canon. DO NOT accept a "same as" - get the same HD (took 4 failures before our bean counter learned).

We played then HFFORMAT list game for a little while. Ran into just because it is on the list, does not mean it will work (100&#37. Hit and miss (more miss). Just go ahead and replace it with what came out and make sure you format it first.

Open the .ift file using notepad, and you can view the model numbers of supported drives.

Here's the current list (using v13 hd format):
